Hi all,
I recently purchased a (fairly large) very old rusty/pitted (what I believe is) a BROAD AXE (head). It was dirt cheap and I did not want to leave the Flea Market empty handed after driving out of my way. Anyway.....this Axe head is shaped like the one pictured in the link below.

To those Axe experts here....is this style of Axe in fact a BROAD Axe ? I am unable to read/see any markings on the Axe as it is very old and rusty/pitted. I suspect I'll never know the maker.
This Axe head blade is 6". I suspect is it circa 1800's. I was told it came out of an old Barn in VT. The Eye hole was filled with dry dirt so, I suspect it was buried and later unearthed. I've also notice (while Google researching) that there are not a lot of this "style" Axes that have the "round" lug area. If anyone here has pictures of vintage "round lug" Axe heads, I sure would love to see examples. I plan to soak the Axe head in Vinegar and see if I can find any markings. Heck, for the two dollars the Axe head cost me, it'll give me something to do.
Regards,
HARDBALL
