.....

You think a BG-42 'Benza would rust on you?

You don't like holes in drilled here and there all over the handle? (you know I'm talking about the TnT ;))

You could try, but I doubt that CRK would be willing to do such a project. I would consider going with a custom maker.

Tom Mayo makes as fine a frame lock as you are likely to come across, and works in talonite.

Kit Carson also makes an occasional frame lock, but prefers stellite to talonite. He has a bit of a backlog, so it might be a while before you can get the knife. His reputation for fit and finish is second to none.

Darryl Ralph has great designs and does solid work, one of the true "artists" in the field. He offers talonite as an option.

Good luck and Happy Holidays!

Got to handle a large TNT at the NYC show last month. Not a bad knife at all. Handle wasn't comfortable at all for me, but the blade was nice and it sure had some great lockup.

That was how the TNT came about for me, I could not get a CRK Sebenza with a Talonite Blade. Mr. Mayo was most accomodating.

I wouldn't expect BG-42 to rust like crazy. If you put the knife in and out of sea water every day, and never flush it out with fresh or wipe it down with Tuff Cloth or something similar, then it would rust. But if reasonable care is followed, I would not expect to have rust problems with it.

But then if you already have a TnT, I can't imagine what you would really gain with a Talonite Sebenza.

Hey, if you are itching for a Talonite and Ti frame lock, get one of those Robertson Custom Cutlery special EDCs in Talonite! Darrel Ralph EDC with special flipper design and Talonite blades ground by Rob Simonich I believe. Incredible pieces, those are going to be.

I am NOT trying to push talonite on anyone......
BUT- When I grind BG 42 it rusts from the time I stick it in the water to cool it off to when I pick it up 5 min later to start with the next finer grit.......and I mean its RUSTED!

talonite, frame lock, tip down. search over.

Elishewitz makes some framelocks too (he calls them bolster-locks and mono-locks) but I can't recall having ever seen any Talonite blades on his folders. Always liked the design on his Persian...

There is also the option of a Chimera - It's offically a liner lock, because there is a Carbon Fiber (Ot G10, or other) scale outside the bolster. It's Tip Down, and Talonite

Nosamk.. you do seem to have the answer. That DDR is sweet looking. I do remember seeing a web dealer selling a limited run of Talonite Apogees as well. Several left with 4.25 inch handle and 3 inch blade. That should fit the bill for BlackRazor.

Robert-

I dunno if Darrel will be at the Vegas show or not. Good luck finding one though, its a great knife.

Fantastic pix, Keith. I have the EDC in 420v and love it. My photos of it look like crap, though. Nice job.

The Talonite Apogees are at The Edge:
www.theedgeequipment.com/

I think there are a few more available. That is a great knife. A lot smaller than the 3.6" EDC!

BTW, I heard that DDR is discontinuing the Apogee from his line, if that is appealing to you.

Let's not forget the master, Kit Carson! His Stellite M-16s are tough as tanks and very ergonomic.

Like many makers out there today, it seems that CRK feels very strongly about their design philosophy based on what works best for them. It is highly unlikely that they will ever offer or agree to have their folders made or modified with a tip down carry option. I have requested as such in the past. And have received a negative response. One option is to have the clip carry option work done yourself or by another maker or competent machinist. And accept the companys warranty being void. The other is to have it stored away collecting dust. I chose the latter. Too bad.
