hay i dont collect them
do some of the buck masters
not have tang stamps?
all i know of have buck stamped on the tang..
i seen two and it struck me as real odd
so were they odd or not ?

I've seen some pretty convincing clones / copies that were either made unmarked or had their markings removed. Never saw an unmarked one that I believed was an actual Buck though. The overall quality just wasn't as good.

well when i said of that i had never seen one with out tang stamp
this guy went .... red face .... and said they were both real bucks!
that they had buck master cast in the fuller of the blade
i got his card
said i would check
was hopeing Joe could jump in
i picked up a M9, phrobis 3, usa tang stamped blade
it is made by buck right ?
not a clone or made by calumniates?

Almost Every BuckMaster made have/had some type of stamp. Heck even the PHROBIS made First gen BuckMaster prototypes had a stamp( PHROBIS dolphin logo), Later Protos, BUCK KNIVES XXXX,BUCK U.S.A. stamping and the commercial versions BUCK,U.S.A., Buck Custom, etc....

The only one I have seen was a BUCK made BuckMaster without a Stamp of any kind was the very first Damascus 184 made that Paul Bos had in his collection. You can see that picture in my area here under albums http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/album.php?albumid=527&page=2

It is probablly a rip off variation from China or another country. With that said. There might be a VERY little chance it could be real. A Picture would help.

Dave, I found one too without tang stamp in Germany. It also has the Buckmaster and the pat pend in the bloodgrooves. But nothing else. I can't find a difference to the "original". Is that possible?

Best,
Haebbie

Look close at that style of 184. You will notice that the teeth on the top edge are shorter. Plus on the later variations of this style of BuckMaster. Smaller Pommel with normal size pins. Then smaller pommel with small anchor pins were added in that order. This was to save cost for production as the imitation184 were flooding the market. Which was the final demise of this model.

By the way who would like to see a modern BuckMaster made? ;)

I dont think that there is anybody who wants to see one of these cheap editions.

But for the sake of completeness ...

Best,
Haebbie
