184 Pouches

I just bought an early 184 in new condition. I didn't notice until after receipt that there is no lower pouch strapped to the sheath. I contacted the seller and they are saying that the knife came in different configurations and no lower pouch is normal or was a normal configuration.

Experts! Is this true or am I being played? :jerkit:

When I bought mine they were an individual option for each not included with the knife.

I also have an early 184 that came with the small pouch to house a silva compass. It also came with a brochure explaining this was done since the compass in the cap of the handle wouldnt hold a true setting. If yours has the compass in the cap of the handle it may not have come with the pouch. You might try contacting Buck to see about buying the pouches if you are interested. I ordered the large one from them a couple of years ago and they said they had a few more laying around. good Luck.

Mine came with the Silva compass (I think in 1984 or 1985), and had only the small pouch. See it here: http://www.m4040.com/Survival/184.htm

Some came with the large pouch and some with the small. That small pouch was actually made for the compass but, if my memory is correct, it also came on the first ones and was used to hold the anchor pins while not in use. I checked my notes and can't verify this to be true but I do know that both pouches could be ordered separately as early as 1985.
