1870T Old Timer - any way to verify where it was made?

I recently purchased a Schrade 1870T Old Timer from an antique shop in my town for $62, under the impression that it was made in the United States. However, a little while later, I came across several 1870Ts in a sporting goods store each for 20 something dollars, all with packaging mentioning that they'd been made in China. From what I understand, Schrade used to manufacture knives in the US and sold out to China eventually. I can't seem to find any solid way of confirming whether it was made pre or post sellout, other than maybe the tang stamp? It just says "SCHRADE" in all caps, no "NY" or anything like that. Have I been swindled, or am I just being paranoid? Is there any solid way to confirm when (or where) it was manufactured?

Hi from Australia, can you post a photo. I can not find anything about a "187OT".

If you have a knife made by "SCHRADE" it was made in China, by Taylor Brands.
[The new owners of the brand name "Schrade"- is now Taylor Brands]
The pre 2004 Schrade knives have a tang stamp, that always indicates it was made in the U.S.A.
Some of the early knives have N.Y. U.S.A.
There is so many collectors here, so please ask questions... Ken.

If what you've said is true than I've been swindled. I can't post a picture for some reason, I put the image tags with the imgur link and everything, but it just says "SCHRADE". No "NY" or "USA". It's a big 14.5 inch (10 inch blade) bowie knife.

I can confirm you have been swindled. :grumpy:

Schrade USA did not make a knife quite like that, nor was there the pattern number 187 OT used pre 2004.

Plus, that example is the Taylor chinese stamp.

I agree on all points. It is a Taylor Brands designed and Asian produced knife. A web search will show the recommended retail price. And I believe you paid well in excess of that. Perhaps you can get a refund from the seller. If not... lesson learned?

Tried to get a refund. They wanted to see the receipt (even though we both know damn well I paid exactly 62 bucks for that knife). Of the dozens of receipts I have lying around in my room, this is the one I haven't bothered to keep track of for whatever reason, so again ignorance on my part bites me in the butt.

Lesson learned.
And angry Yelp review posted.

Sorry to hear this but it is an education. And I will not say that it isn't a usable knife. Likely a 7mov-whatever Asian equivalent to 400 series stainless. Back when Taylor fist began importing Schrade branded knives, I got hoodwinked by look alike packaging (and my own greed) and bought one of his Sharpfingers. Later, I bought a different pattern just to compare it to the real McCoy. And still much later my kids gave me one of his slipjoints in the tin can bank. So you aren't alone. But you now know who to ask for tips on the genuine Schrade knives. Don't be a stranger!

I definitely know who I'll be going to for future knife advice. I'll still use the thing for sure, just gotta be careful in the future. Thanks for the help.

I got a schrade 125ot from my dad and I'm trying to find more history about it such as the serial number. Does anyone know where it is located?

Unless it was a limited edition of some sort or a special factory order for another company, such as a fire department, etc., there would not be a serial number on a 125OT. If you tell us the tang stamp, or, better, an image, we could tell you a little more about your knife.
