I was recently given a Buck 188. The grip is missing and needs a sheath. Anyone know of a source for these parts?

best bet is the Bay
Nothing on ebay right now that I can see. Just curious what the approximate value of the knife might be if I got the correct grip and sheath. Don't want to spend a ton of money on it if it doesn't make sense.

Outstanding Sir! Very well done ! So when does the 3D printed sheath arrive? ;) :)

I'm keeping it, but curious what would the approximate value of that 188 be? With a non-original grip lol. I assume it was blackened at some point?

I have a 1994 Buck catalog, they came in 2 versions, model 188BK (cat no. 1487) was the black oxide version, original price was $194.

I haven't a clue about estimating it's current value... but I wouldn't do anything with the finish, I think the worn oxide matches up well with the handle and I really like the look.

The 184 buck master sheaths do turn up on ebay with more frequency than a 188, and they are basically the same except for the cutter piece riveted on at the bottom. With your skills, and having a milling machine, you could make one.

Yeah, I agree on the patina, it's only original once. I'll search for the 184 sheath as well. Thanks for the info!

I should have known earlier I have 2 new handles and I don't know how many sheaths just sitting around and bought them for a find like yours. Just need a rifle to attach it too.

There were only 5000 of the USMC knives made.

I had the four on top sent to Buck and they bead blasted all 4 knives. They would not sand blast them because the sand leaves pits in the blade. All of these knives were bought on eBay over the years. I just took a peak at eBay and I cannot believe what they want for a 188.

Wow, that's a really nice collection. Would you be interested in parting with one of your sheaths? It could be one that's not in great condition, actually a beat up one would probably match mine better. :)

Just a query, could you have not sent this back to Buck to be fixed under the forever warranty?
Or is this not an option because they are Bayonets?
Either way you did an outstanding job on the handle, very nicely done!
Love that worn look to,very nice.

I don't see how a lost handle would qualify as a warranty issue.

Nice job on the handle!

I had an Original Buck Intrepid Tanto years ago that was missing a handle scale, sent it back and got it fixed no drama.
Not sure I could do that now though.

If anyone would do it they would. My point is I couldn't expect them to do it when it is not a warranty issue.

I called Buck before I made the handle and they said there were no parts available for this knife. I didn't know about the forever warranty at that time and was just asking to purchase a handle. They didn't offer to replace the handle under warranty.
