18th Buck knife not the same quality

Just opened my new 18th Buck knife. The "back of the spring" (one side has many small cuts along one side of the steel edge only:grumpy:)? The rest of the knife is great. This was brand new in the box when I opened it. Glad, I only paid $25. It is an xmas gift for the daughter and not worth shipping back for a return. Just NOT up to Buck Knives high standards and quality control. Looks like a seconds part was used.

If it's worth posting about, it's worth holding Buck to their standard of quality and their warranty. Return it to the place of purchase for exchange if you can, otherwise send it in to Buck and ask them to make it right and to improve their quality systems. I'm sure they'd like to find out how a bad one got out the door.
 
I will try to post it to you all first to get feedback. I like the knife and my dau will love it. I just do not think it's a Buck quality version.
 
I have handled a truck load of Buck knives and still have some like yours. Not a first quality knife that makes it through quality control. Chalk it up to one bad apple or the old Friday, Monday knife.
It doesn't happen often but when it does it can make you question what they are doing. I have a pre 1986 model 105 with a " B" grade grinding job, I have a muskrat 313 that doesn't close and I did get one knife I did send back. but for the amount of knives I handle, it is relatively a small number. Don't hold this one knife against them, just try to look at the next one before you purchase and you should be getting the quality that you normaly would expect.
The only consitent quality issue I have seen that is correctable it the thickness of the brass/steel in the sheath snaps. I have more that a handfull that have broken spanning just about every decade - leather or nylon sheaths. I have had other manufactures sheaths tear the leather when I try to unsnap the sheath, I have had Buck sheaths where the snap will crumble.

I agree and I don't hold this one knife against them. You will note that I have 18 Buck knives and am a fan of Buck knives. It will not be my last one:D
 
I had a similar experience with another brand. I eventually decided that even though the knife worked just fine, having a knife that slipped through quality control bothered me, so I sent it back for a replacement. They were very courteous. Because of how well they treated me, I am much more likely to buy more of their knives. Sometimes it is more than a question od dollars and cents.

Buck Knives replaced this knife at the Oregon Knife show.:thumbup: Joe Houser at Buck Knives has great customer service:D
