This is Not a "What's my knife worth" post in an attempt to market it.
I have a 1909 Argentine short sword without scabbard, a gift from a friend. I see one a little nicer on the eBay for $159.
My quandary is that Id like to spiff mine up a bit. It has a bit of corrosion on the guard and pommel and the wood scales have shrunk back a bit from the edges of the grip. If like to Dremel out the rivets, clean up some of the corrosion(maybe not all, some is kind of deep) put on scales of either horn or bone, then sharpen it and make it useable. Also thinking to make a scabbard of waxed horse hide but haven't quite decided what I want there yet.
At any rate, my question is " Am I being stupid? " Is this thing likely to appreciate greatly in value if left original, and I'd be better off to just make myself a replica out of leaf spring?
I realize pictures would help, but my technological ineptitude is the stuff of legend. I have enough trouble trying to use my flip phone, and struggle constantly with Otto Correct.
Anyways, any advice will be considered, thoughtful advice will be appreciated. Thanks.

Yes, DO NOT try to restore it.It would loose any historical or monetary value. Just lightly try to clean the active rust and then keep it oiled.
