I, like you, love knives but Im also a big gun guy. I have acquired lots of them over the years but one above all others really pulls at my heart strings and that is the 1911. I'm not saying it is or isn't the best pistol made I'm saying for me it's very symbolic and historic in very much the same was as the Bowie. So my thought for a while is why not merge the two, Bowie and 1911 togather. I'm going after this a tad bit different then others might. I like using numbers in the design that mean somthing. So for exzample I set the total length at 11". I then gave it a 4" clip and a 5" belly radius. Of corse you have to use 1911 grips as the handle scales. I then took 19 and divided it by 11 and it gave me the width of 1.73. All the lines are of the grips are what lay out the location of the point. If you extend the line from the screw holes to the end of the 11" that is where the point is. I made the radius of the finger stop the same radius as the transition from grip to trigger guard on the 1911. I added 19 v shape jimpings as that's the number of serrations on the slide of an original 1911. So far I think it looks good, just wanting to see what you guys think.

Started as a rough sketch on a bar of D2 (iconic steel)

Set an extra set of grips on it to see how she looks.

I liked it enough to fire up the computer and draw it in solidworks.

I like the simplicity of your design much more than other "busier" 1911 handled knives I've seen in the past. Looking forward to seeing the finished product!

This 1911 man can't wait JT. Although Its not my carry pistol, it is one of my favorites too. Knife looks great, can't wait to see the two together. You forgot about the grip safety for the knife though.

You need to use grip screw bushings to give the screws enough bite.

Needs 30 lpi checkering on the front strap, that would be sweet.

That's the plan. I will use 1/4" stock and thread the tang to take the threaded bushing. This way you can swap out that scales any time you like.

That would be sweet. Wonder how it would feal after using the knife.

That's great! What 1911 fan doesn't have at least an extra set of grips around. I'd slap a set of my VZ grips on there. It'd never slip in the hand and feel familiar right off.

Great stuff. Any tribute to JMB and especially the 1911 is a worthy endeavor in my books.

The pictures won't show on Tapatalk I gotta get to a laptop to follow this one.
