I have an Adventurer from C&S:

I want to add a beavertail grip safety, but don't know of a decent 'smith to use, and I have had it with the 50% up front, we'll let you know when to send your gun BS that I have been dealing with from C&S for years.

Anyone recommend a decent smith with a tolerable turnaround?

Steven,

You have two top notch smiths within driving distance of your location. Jim Hoag, old-school smith and contemporary of Armand Swenson, is in Canoga Park. There's also Alan Tanaka in Gardena. I'd suggest looking at those two smiths first since you can visit their shops and talk to them in person. You can then ask to see examples of their work and decide for yourself if you want to use their services.

I'm going to drop off a Browning Hi-Power with Jim Hoag later this month for a trigger job and barrel recrowning. I'll let you know how the experience goes.

Thanks,

I'm heading up to Pasadena for the Expo on Friday, and have contacted Alan about dropping the firearm off.

Will let you know how that shakes out.

Plus two on this one.

+1 for Alan Tanaka. I had some work done last year. Outstanding work, reasonable, great turnaround time.

And, a very nice gentleman.

IF you can get John Jardine to work on it, no better 1911 guy on the planet.

Jardine's only an hour's drive away from me. I think it's awesome having such a great so close by. I'd love to get some work done by him, but I can't even reach him to ask his business hours.

I decided to leave it as is.....I hate the way the grip safety looks on the Adventurer, but have to admit that it works well, so there is no reason to mess with it.

Off to Novak's for new nite sights.
