Anyone interested in the 1911 and interested in doing maintenance, repair, and light modifying should own a copy of Hallock's 45 Auto Handbook. It is one of the best general knowledge books on the 1911 on the market. It also has great section on martial marking as well as a breakdown of year of manufacture by serial number. You can find it at Amazon as well as other sources.
