1911 or AR-15

Hey guys, haven't posted in over a year.

Anyways, here's the dilemma.
I have stero stuff to trade with the son of the owner of the largest Colt distributor in the US.
I have the option of trading for an AR-15 upper or a 1911 slide and internals.
Which should I go for? Both are worth the same.
Both have the fun factor. I don't plan on using either for home defense.
If I got the 1911 parts I would need a frame, If I got the AR upper I would need a lower and stock. In the end I would end up spending the same on parts.
If I got an AR-15 I wouldn't be able to hunt anything here in NC but varmints and on game lands you must be 8 feet above the ground. If I had the 1911 I could hunt any game, all I would have to do is buy a longer barrel (it would be very short range hunting). I could also open carry it while hunting or fishing and I don't have to be 9 feet off the ground to shoot it on game lands.
Which should I get? The only gun I own right now is a modified Ruger 10-22.

What are all your opinions?
BTW all parts would be Colt mil-spec government contract parts.

Get the AR upper (get an M4-A3 w/handle), sell the upper, put the $$ towards what you really want.

Isn't there some way to barter or use a 'deferred payment' and snag both?

I view these firearms as 'companion pieces.' Both should be in any firearms collection. Both are easy to reload. While I've seen it done, it's hard to whack prairie dogs with a 1911; a .223 round will easily penetrate your walls in self-defense.

If pressed, I would chose the 1911. It will do a bit of everything while you save for that rifle. But please, do get that rifle sometime in the near future.

I'm going with the AR upeer.
It would be much easier to sell an upper than trying to sel mil-spec 1911 parts (although the slide would probably go pretty quickly).
I'll build the rifle up and if I don't like it (yeah right, fat chance:D ) then I can trade it in for or sell it for a 1911.

AR upper all the way. 1911's are great but AR's have the edge on the fun factor.

I have a feeling that 1911's will be legally available far longer than AR's, cynical i know, but we do live in a politically correct world these days. As was said, get the M4 upper, flattop or handle, either is good.
