make what look fat:D

nice collection:thumbup:

Those are some purddy grips. They look like they could dig-in to your hand while shooting.

Aaaarrgghhhghhghg! Too fat!:barf:

Take 'em off, it's a 1911 for cryin' out loud. Put some Straight 8's on and practice, practice, practice. Oh, and don't forget ...Practice:D

Dry fire the shnot out of them and believe it or not, they will find their target all on their own. Another alternative is to try a .22 LR conversion if you have to have a bang and flying brass;)

(Not knocking Bro, just trying to get your guns' dignity back;))

Strabs is right on with the dry fire and I can't recommend more strongly getting a .22 conversion. I got one over ten years ago and it greatly improved my skills. I can't comment on the crimson trace slabs as I have not seen them in person, but to each his own I say.

I think they look fine, nice Kimbers, by the way. I am saving for a Pro Covert II.

in that last pic, the grips on the far left, can you give specs on them? oh and pm me if you wanna sell them.

I'd take the slabs and Heine's over the lasergrips, but that's just me. I find that with a 1911 I can just close my eyes and aim, and I'll be pointing at what I want to hit. Love the 1911, hate the finicky nature of them. Yes, I know they can be incredibly reliable. I'm just not willing to put the time in to get them to do so. My guns are strictly defensive, and as such, I like one that only has 17 moving parts and NEVER fails. :::Flame suit on:::

Oh...and the plethora of magazine choices out there for the 1911 makes things even MORE complicated.

Throw the factory mags out and replace them all with Wilsons, Baers, or the like.

wired45, nice collection BTW:thumbup:

Ya see...that's what I'm talking about. No offense to you, Strabs, but when I was having my problems I DID go out and buy some of those ridiculously expensive Wilson mags only to continue having problems. That caused me to go and learn about the physics of the 1911 and it's feed/function properties. In doing some research, I came across a lot of information. Check these:

http://how-i-did-it.org/magazines/feeding-time.html

http://forum.m1911.org/showthread.php?t=9178

This is where I learned that the Wilson mags are actually more luck than anything else. How Bill Wilson has created himself such a market after totally ignoring the controlled-feed physics of the 1911 platform is beyond me, but I guess marketing is a force to be reckoned with.

Truth is I would rather have a "factory mag" with the hybrid feed-lip conceptualized by 1911 Tuner and manufactured for Colt by Checkmate Industries than an uber-expensive bs mag that hail-mary's the round into the chamber in the hope that it'll go in there right.

It's as a result of these poorly-designed mags that the whole "polish the feed ramp" pandemic has occured. If the mags were built to original spec, so many of these problems wouldn't exist. JMB was a genius. I don't think there are many people in the gun industry who can really compare. Bill Wilson and his team especially.

wired, i like your pics, thanks for posting them. i only have a laser on my night stand glock 23 and its an insight light laser combo. let us know how you like yours after you shoot them a little bit.

i have used McCormick shooting stars for 23 years and have not had even one ftf. even more amazing i interchange all my mags in all my 1911's and never think twice about whether they will feed and fire.

i shoot quite a bit, mainly my 1911's (kimber warrior, colt defender).

i have had issues with just about every mag out there. this is mainly from the feed lips getting bent after hitting the ground.

that said, the wilsons have been by far the most reliable in my experience. expensive, but i carry my 1911 on duty, and must have complete confidence in my equipment. the plastic follower moves more consistently, and the removeable baseplates make cleaning easy.

I'll probably get flamed for this, but when I do decide to own another 1911 (or a few of them), after my experiences with Kimbers I will probably never own another one of those. Not only did I have problems with it WAY after the break-in period, (with McCormicks, Wilsons, Kimbers, Colts, etc...) but mine began to rust very quickly as well. I would make sure it was adequately lubed, run a silicon guncloth over it before putting it on the nightstand, and two days later there was rust on the slide and on the barrel. I just decided to check it every day. But, after getting multiple failures during a tactical handgun class, I sold that thing quick-fast. Can't trust a gun I can't get to work right. Maybe it was my fault, but if so, then I just want something less troublesome.

Regardless of what I said earlier, I believe the 1911 to be have the best appearance, ergonomics and all-around feel of any handgun I've ever used/owned. In my experience, however, they're just not as reliable as a Glock.

no flaming necessary. :D

kimbers produced between 2006-2008 seem to have quite a few issues. our armorer has had to replace plunger springs on most of them. quality control has been poor, at least during the assembly process.

my warrior is a series 70 from 2005, and ive had no reliability issues that were not magazine related. once the feed lips get bent, any pistol will malfunction.

this has also been my experience with glocks. i was carrying an issued glock 22 prior to my transition to the kimber. i was getting fails to feed pretty regularly. it was likely magazine related, but my confidence in that weapon was gone.

I don't have a position on the great 1911 debate. With the exception of my Omega, all of mine were made by Colt's. Not because of some preference, but merely because when I bought them, Colt's and Springfield were the only options besides NORINCO or some old warhorse.

My favorite mags for the .45 are some 8-round MEC-GARs I picked up several years ago. They have an aluminum follower that has no openings into the lower region of the magazine. Instead, there is a small notch machined into the side for the slide stop. They look remarkably similar to the followers for the H&K P9S magazines.

i have always wanted to have a 1911 but i was wondering what mag sizes are common. could some one tell me?
