A friend of mine brought this by the shop he said his grandpa gave it to him when he was a young boy. it came with this sheath and a note wrapped around the handle
the note says [given to K.H.M Davis by a Mexican bandit he helped ferry across the Rio grande river during the battle for Mat a Moras Mexico between Villa and Caranza forces in 1913] the guard is soft silver the spacer's look to be made from coin's from what I can tell the handle is made from some type of horn goat maybe it is translucent and the blade was made from a file that is clear to see . I am sure it meant a lot to the owner and may have been the only way he had to say thank you for saving my life. I hope you all enjoyed the story have a merry X miss and a happy new year .collen3.jpgcollen1.jpgcollen4.jpg

Cool story Dave!

Are we gonna see a modern interpretation of that one from you, with a Mexican bandit carved in?

super cool, Dave. You could do knife this shape, but with a twisty feather- that would be pretty damn sweet!
Would be interesting to see an exact replication of shape, size and proportion but with your advanced forge welding skills...

wild. That seems like a such a contemporary blade design for the American West! Maybe some free form forging that went a little haywire and the guy just left it thinking it was neat? cool story...

Has anybody seen other examples of such wild recurve from that time period??

Can't get to all my pics right now but recurves blades like this are fairly common in the Spanish SW 19-20the Century
