Hi everyone! Amy Workman here from Little Rock, Arkansas!
Can anyone tell me about this knife? It's marked 1/27/1942. It is a Schrade. It has like a stainless steel handle, kind of odd looking. It's a folding one. The blade is approx 6" long, and kinda wide. It's serrated on one side and sharpened on the other. I'm looking for some kind of price range, info, etc...
Any information would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

I saw one of those (redshanks pic) on ebay. I think they called it a fishing knife. I noticed it because it looked odd. It was going cheap, I think under $15 but the auction wasn't over.

George's son made a few changes to the original patent (a chip off the old block) to get a new patent issued in '42. You'll see this date often on the scout chow wire jacks. I'm not sure, but it may have been the metal piece added to keep fingers from being guillotined. I'll have to put my patent researcher on it.

Redshanks knife is for patent # 2270851
filed 4/15/1941 G.M.Schrade pictured with a pruning type of blade.
At least 4 blade types were offered. His is a fishing knife.
This is an improvement by the son over the fathers patents in 1925 (#1600602) without the wire wrapped handle and metal sides. Later improved with another patent 2596294 5/13/1952 that updates the locking of the blade and again removes the wire wrap and metal sides.

Take $500 write off on your taxes for a novelty search for the knife impared.

Lrv,

That was pretty punny...and should not go unrecognized for low brow humor.....:D

Wow y'all, thanks so much for all the info!!!
Redshanks: it looks exactly like the one you've pictured there.
Again, thanks for all your time and effort with this...I probably wouldn't have found much out on my own, don't know a lot about knives!
