To all of you who did not bid against Joe Houser on ebay #190095568558 for the old Buck Club Membership Card I thank you. This will be an important piece of Buck and BCCI history for all of us to enjoy. Thanks again.

So how many of you are asking, "what membership card"? :)
Thanks to Dick for showing me that auction. I asked Chuck Buck if he knew anything about it but he was pretty young back then. From the timing of the date written on the card, Hoyt may have had something to do with it as well as his son Al.
For those of you planning on attending this years Blade Show, I am going to bring the card, or a quality reproduction of it, to show off to anybody interested.
Sometimes I get more interested in old Buck paperwork than the knives themselves because there is so much more to learn about Buck's history. :D

Looks like Joe practically *stole* it... :D

Winning bid: US $12.38

So, who is/was he???

(and why would a "Life Time" membership card have an expiration date???) lol

I thought it was nice of the seller to show a pic of the [blank] back of the card, too... ;)

For those of you not familiar with San Diego, the 4600 block of Santa Cruz shown on the card is in good old Ocean Beach, right off of Sunset Cliffs Blvd. Ahhh that brings back so many memories. :D

its like this some imes whem some of us see some of us iding we dont bid..
no need to ask why >>>it jest is...:D

That is an awesome piece of history :D
Thank you all for sharing that!

Just for the record I would never bid against Joe or any other (known) BCCI member...(intentionally) I am sure most others are the same way.
Its hard enough to get nice knives and display items without bidding everyone else up!
Thank you.

I'm glad Joe got it!! Congrats!! Less than $13?!?! What a deal!!!!

Much better place for it to be than in a shoe box under a bed somewhere.

I'm with wh4f also, if I see a name I know (or remember) I also back off of an auction. No need to beat each other up.

This also reminds me of why I have gotten into Buck knives, they have been around a while and have given great service for so many years.

Would love to see it, but I don't think I'll be able to make it to Blade.

Again, Congrats! Glad to see that it made it to a place where more than one person can appreciate it.

We've discussed this many times, but I'll repeat myself...I'll bid up to my ceiling...if your ceiling is higher, then you are welcome to it... :)

Here's an example...I'm looking for a green-handled 426 Bucklite drop-point...my ceiling is $46...if you bid $47 on it, you will definately not see a counter-bid from me... :p

But until I hit my ceiling, I will bid against anyone...I don't care who... ;)

If you want it bad enough, go for it...

I agree with Trax. I don't think there's anything wrong with a little friendly competition. Plus, many here may place a very low bid on a knife and then stop. Why should I back off when the earlier bid wasn't a realistic one? On the other hand, if someone here on the list were to contact me and say that they really had their eye on a particular knife, I would back off and let them get it out of respect.

Careful fellahs,

We are treading on that area of the moderators no no land. I don't bid on anything that one of my Buck brothers is the current high bidder on....but that's just me.

Now back on topic!!!!! Very cool Joe....I saw that card on the bay....I'm glad it went to a good home where it will be truly loved and cared for. Let us know what you find out about's it's history....other than what is stated on the card. "Buck life time knife club"????? is that a reference to the for ever warranty or is there an older club???? Info please.

Yep.. saw a 560 on Ebay that a certain Dave was bidding on.... added it to watch list but thats it... wont bid on it no matter what...

I think, it is no problem to ask the first bidder for his limit. If he gets the item below his limit I woldn't bid him out. But if there is another bidder higher than the first limit I can bid as high as i want.

Best,
Haebbie

Problem is tho Haebbie...

Most of the people on this forum are -7/8 hours behind us.. so sometimes by the time I spot the item its too much of a time difference to get in touch. So my rule is I see someone I recognize then I back away...

Its a shame that we cant post live auctions here and then we would know who is bidding for what etc etc

During the time this card was in use, Buck called itself "Buck Lifetime knives". So, although confusing, the title on the card does not mean you are a member for life.
Yes...I stole it! :D But then it seems that most collectors dont want the paperwork as much as the knives themselves so the bidding usually stays pretty tame.
But therein lies the dilema. If more guys were interested, the value and therefore high bid price would go up on this sort of stuff. Thats bad if you want the item but the flip side is that more people would then start to list this kind of stuff rather than, gulp! tossing it in the trash can.

I have always said that I will bow out of the bidding on a knife if I recognize the bidder. But all bets are off if it is for Buck paperwork, or an old hand made Buck from before 1961.

I am glad that you got it Joe!!
It will look good in your Buck Knife museum!
Pretty rare item!
