I have a vintage (1950's) Randall No. 5 with Crown Stag Handle & 8" blade. The original owner sent it back to Randall recently to have a new sheath made as the original dryrotted. This knife has a carbon steel blade with chrome finish from Randall, and hasn't been used. Due to its age the chrome has a few spots in it.

Any idea what its worth? I'm a Busse Combat man, but did have a Randall on order for a couple of years around 2000-2002. I eventually gave up waiting. When this crown-stag #5 presented itself I had to buy it. Now I've come around to wondering what its worth.

After posting 800+ messages, It would seem to me that you've been here long enough to know that you have to be a Gold Member (or greater) to get an opinion from anyone on this Forum regarding the value of any knife.

However, IMO, the knife is worth whatever you paid for it because the definition of market pricing is what a reasonablle person is willing to pay for an item.

If you want to know whether the price you paid corresponds to what others have or would pay for the knife, you'll have to investigate other sources for that infomation unless you're willing to pay to become at least a Gold Member.

My advice is to NOT store or keep the knife in the sheath. Chemicals commonly used to process leather can be corrosive to steel and chrome over time. That might be the cause of the spots on the blade.
