found this 1953 swiss army soldiers knife for sale, thinking about picking it up. how does it look to you guys?

That's so cool I'd jump on that in a heartbeat. :thumb up:

Old enough to have character, and wonder what stories it could tell. Riding in the pocket of some Swiss soldier, watching and guarding the snowy alpine passes during the cold war. NATO forces on one side, Soviet forces on the other, each side eyeing the other while wondering if the balloon was going to go up. . Things getting very tense during the revolt in Hungary, the invasion of Czechoslovakia.

Yeah, I'd be on it.

Very cool indeed! That screwdriver has that same half-moon cutout between the tang and tip that i was questioning on the Scout knife thread (those Scouts have two of em). What are they?

That is a wire stripping notch. Here's the one on the Vic Electrician.

Possibly the start of the next knife tale perhaps...

jackknife...i like the way you think. If no cracks on the handle, i would be on it. if cracks, what is the price?

i picked it up for $120, a little more than i wanted to spend but its the first of that vintage ive seen in person and it kind of goes with a 1963 soldier i found recently too. im pretty happy with it but i wish the cross was more visible.

I wonder what kind of wood the scales are? They've stood up to extreme temps and pocket wear very well!
