I have an old single line Buck Fixed blade knife. It looks like the predecessor to the 103. It has a 4" handle and a 4" blade. The blade is wide like a 103. One of the main differences between the two is that the old one I have the top "clip point" part of the blade goes back 1.5" and the 103 barely goes back at all.

It appears I can not post attachmets, so how would I get a picture as part of the post?

I would like to find the model # and possible year of production

I've had trouble w/ posting pictures too. But there are others here that know it well . I'd like to see it. Also, look at the one posted in the 'Sunday picture show' thread and see if it looks like that one. DM

At the finger guard, what does the spacer material look like (what color)? Also, look at the very end of the pommel and see if there is a circle there with a small hole? DM

4Damascus:

You must bear in mind that the early BUCK knives (those with only BUCK stamped on the blade) were individually hand ground by individual knife makers. There will be variations in the blades and the grind of them. I have several early BUCK 103s and no two are idenitcal. Your description is entirely consistent with the knives I have. Later 103s, ground by automated machine will be uniform.

You can post attachments if you upload them to a photo hosting site and then link to them there.

I use photobucket, cause it's free.
Once you upload to photobucket, and have it in an album, if you mouse over the photo, you get a set of options. The bottom one is the IMG code. Click on the IMG code and Photobucket copies it. Then go to your post here on BF and paste it in. It will show up like this.
