1962 Camillus MIL-K

So what is it about this particular knife that brings such a high price?

Is this typical for these knives/year? Or is there something about that one??

I just picked one up for $40, and that seemed reasonable. (I'd post a pic but don't see a browse button).

Camco explained in his comment in that thread - very few of them were made that year and for someone trying to fill a collection (1 from every year they were made), well, obsessions rule. :D

How many did they make in '62 vs. any other year? Any idea what the reason was for the drop in production in '62?

Another reason for buying the knife with a certain date is the start and end of your active military service.

I've never heard of a specific production number for per year manufacturing. There should be something along these lines as it's been said that all in all Camillus made about 12 million of these knives total.
IMHO, I think one thing that effects the number of knives made and marked 1962 would be that at that time I don't believe Camillus was marketing any of their Government contract items towards the general commercial market place. A few years later they were and if a customer wanted a Marine fighting utility knife, Jet pilots survival knife, etc, etc, they could order from the catalog.
This is just speculation as I don't have any supporting documents to refer to, Camillus may have completed an existing contract during the year 1961 and by the time the Government came back to them requesting more knives it was later in 1962.
It may be that only a small number of that next contract got made before it was 1963.

Hi,

New to this forum. Does anyone know where I can get a broken spring replaced on my 1967 MIL-K?
