View media item 6103View media item 6104View media item 6105I just picked this up today. 1967 Gerber MKii serial #002005. It was pretty much always a fantasy knife for me bc of how expensive they usually are. Picked this one up for $250. Blade is amazing, sheath not so much. Missing the retention strap and the snap blew through the leather. Also missing the metal web belt hook. Very excited to have one of my own!

Maybe because I'm not a paying member.
Values for knives is a tricky thing to ask for here; might be against the rules unless you have the extra cool guy membership.

Anyway I'm looking forward to seeing a photo of the knife.

Thanks man. I new to the site so I don’t know the rules 100% yet. Is there another way to show photos?

Ok, got some imgur links of it now. Hope that works.

Also! (Forgot to add) the man I bought this from said it was carried by a Long Range Reconnaissance soldier for two tours of Vietnam. Pretty cool, if true, which I’m sure it very well is.

Great buy for one that old w/such a low #!

There was one for sale on EB in better condition (both the knife and sheath) w/a slightly higher #; I'd call it VG to NM that the seller was asking $5k for. It sold for some other price but I'm sure it wasn't much less than that.

So, $250 is a bargain for what you got. I'm from that generation but never served in VN. If I had, I would have served in 71-73 and, if I survived, I'd probably still have the knife but would never sell it because I'm sentimental that way.

I purchased a Mark II 1980 in NM shape w/a Mint sheath (but no box) for $200. It matches (in terms of age) 2 Gerber Mark I's (4.75 & 5"), 1 Command I and 1 Loveless dagger. Still looking for a Command II to complete this set of knives (in my mind); don't need each and every variation. I'd go broke trying to create a set like that. ;)

PS: Just saw another 1967 Mark II for sale at auction in better condition & w/a higher # than yours but not as good as the other that sold on EB; current bid $1225 (based on 22 bids) w/only 8 hrs still left in the auction; going to watch it; will be interesting to see what it goes for. Update: The knife sold for the last bid at $1225.

That Gerber looks great.
Ive had several of these. Only one without the silly serrations* though. Most relatively new.

As for the supposed background often attached to these knives: Without provenance, there is simply no way to know for sure. The MKII was in production for decades and many were private purchase. Any grunt could have purchased one and many did. Especially the older knives have changed hands many times. They always belong to LURPs or some other dazzling unit - never to a grunt in the motor pool.
I have no reason to doubt you but the golden rule is always; buy the knife, not the story**
Never ever buy the story.

* serrations were added in order to give the imression of the MKII being a survival knife instead of a dedicated deanimation implement, as political winds were changing.

** a good example is the supposed Alamo bowie supposedly belonging to a person with the initials 'J.B.' Gimme a break.

Ha as a veteran myself I know that a story can be imbelished quiet easily. Tales are better when they’re exciting. I bought it for the knife, not the story, but since the story came with the knife it will continue with it.
