Hi folks...I have bought a few older pocket knives-and always spent much time on them ...mineral oil etc...and washing with soapy water..and 90% resurecting the snap that wasnt there etc...and gaining nice smooth "walk and talk"

BUT!!!!...I have just purchased 4 or 5 1970's Carbon steel bladed Boker pocket knives.....straight off a display board...you think I can get half the blades to open!!!! -well not without using a teaspoon in the nail nick ( I know I know..I can hear you groaning from here....my self as well )...which is not the way to go about things I know-and I havent marked the knives...but what do I do??
You couldnt pull the knife open and use it as they are...I have soaked...rinsed and soaked in Mineral oil...it has helped some...but not much...is it because they are unused?...if so...I couldnt imagine anyone being that patient over half their lifetime to finally get them smooth actioned :D
I thought the Boker usa had a fairly good name....is this because of the time factor being unused-or simply maufacture quality? ( dont be shy in forwarding the truth please folks )
Please educate me here.
Thank you in advance, and I apologise if this sounds as though a newbie has written it-cause I am :o

Seized up from non-use like an engine:D:eek: could be. I frankly doubt if it's a manufacturing fault.

I'd try some WD-40 or similar in there, a penetrating oil or paraffin(kerosene) might help in this situation. Use only a little, let it soak on the metal and wipe off excess from the scales. Good luck!

Let's move this over to "maintenance" for you to get some opinions on how to solve your issues...
