I have read over what information is available and know that 102s,103,105s,118s and 121s were made with the "3 line" tang stamp,4 micarta spacers and came with the flapover sheaths, and I have them.
Were there 119s & 120s made with "3 line" tang stamps and 4 micarta spacers between 1974 and 1978? What year was the switch made from flapover sheaths to the "snoopy" style?
I am slowly building period correct displays and appreciate any information.

Scott,

From the information that I have, all the 100 series knives had four micarta spacers and the 3 line tang stamp read tip, up from 1973 to 1980. The change from the flapover sheath to the snoopy sheath occurred at different times with different models. From watching e-bay I would say that 119's and 120's changed to the newer sheaths around 1980. 102's and 105's switched to the newer sheaths as late as the early 90's.

If you are a member of the BCCI, there is a good article by Joe Houser on dating the 100 series knives in the Dec. 2004 newsletter.

Thanks Tom,
It figures, I've got the other 3 newsletters in 2004, misplaced December 2004:o
I keep finding inverted 3 lines with 4 micarta spacers, but none of the others. Are they that scarce?

Scott,

You can download the newsletters from the BCCI website. The inverted 3 line (read tip down) knives should be the scarce ones. It is my understanding they were only stamped that way approximately 1 year (1972). I also have a few of these so maybe they are not as rare as people think. I do however see a lot of 3 line knives, read tip up, on e-bay .
