Does anybody know anything about this knife 1974 Grand Dad's Old Timer Limited Edition. It's in black box wood case blue velvet with serial #.

Welcome.

Only for starters....
Bernard Levine's guide shows that there were 4 patterns (Stockman, Barlow, small Stockman, and fixed blade [Sharpfinger]) made in 1974...the same year as Schrade's 70th anniversary.

I'm pretty sure others will be able to add more.

Welcome to our forum, robsshadow.

I can only add a bit of info from Bruce Voyles 'Commemorative Knives' book. Original cost was $25 or $30 each, depending on model. They are beautiful knives. Last stockman I saw on ebay sold for about $40.

Schrade used the name 'Grand Dad's' on another barlow, besides the limited edition one, with a faux bone handle. Kinda an amber color. Here is a pic of it.

If I remember correctly I saw a Schrade "Grand Dad's" Barlow in California (South Coast Plaza) sometime in the early or mid 80's, two blades, about 3 1/2 inches closed, scroll on bolster and some kind of green wood handle.

Luis

Three blades, black handle has serial number on the handle about 4 inches closed.

Does anybody know how many were made?

Sorry, Robsshadow, I can't find anything on the number made. Wasn't unusual for Schrade to do 10- 15,000 of an issue like that. With the closing of the factory, such records are unavailable to us. You do have a very nice knife, glad you brought the subject up for us to discuss.

Yep, Dale, that is the great looking anniversary barlow. Very classy thing to have in your pocket. The green wood handle, Luis? Something for us to keep our eye out for.

Thanks Phil,
That was my first quality Barlow (I dont count the Imperial Barlow I found on a logging road while deer hunting in 1975 as a quality Barlow).
I liked it so much I bought another one-

The seller called it a Grand Barlow. Of course it came with no box and I am not sure how many different Barlows Schrade produced. I am not sure that most of the ebay sellers even know what the knives they are selling are really called. There is an Imperial cheapie Barlow listed as a 'Grand Daddy Barlow' for $9.99-Buy it now-free shipping.

Can anyone help me with some info on Schrade Barlows?

Thanks,
Dale

Nice rob!
It appears that it is black derlin with brass bolsters, (I couldn't tell tell too well from the pic), is that correct rob? The black & brass are among the best looking Schrades made, IMHO. I have a couple and really like them.
Looks like you have a beauty rob. Congrats!

Here is a picture of the 4 in the set.
The Sharpfinger and the 2 3 bladed knives are tangstamped SCHRADE G.D.O.T. U.S.A.
The Barlow is stamped Schrade G.D.B.I. USA (Dont know what the I. stands for)
All are black delrin handled with brass plates and bolsters and have serial # on the blades.
