My father in law gave me this knife for Christmas in 1974, and told me to put it up, which I did. I came across it during a recent move, having completely forgotten about it. Does anyone know how I can determine the value of this knife? It is in the original case, never been used, and has the original documents in the case...

What I and some others here mostly tell people looking for a value, Is to possibly do a search on ebay of recently ended auctions or just watch for auctions with a knife same as yours to be auctioned off. As ebay is one of the main places for knife buying and selling. Someone may be able to tell you the original retail value and such but most of us as collectors (not trying to speak for anyone else) usually sum it up as what its worth to the collector or person buying it. GDOTS (grand dads oldtimers ) in mint condition usually bring a good buck though. Can you post a pic, may help us out.

Thanks, I'll try to get a picture to post. I guess its in mint condition, since its never been out of the case.

Is it the barlow (2 blade) or the stockman (3 blade)? You'd likely fetch somewhere between $35 and $55 on Ebay on average. Sometimes they go higher if you luck out and a bidding war erupts, but on average those are the prices. You definitely get a premium if your pictures are sharp and detailed, with good closeups.
They're nice knives, both of them:thumbup:

There are actually four knives in that set, a Barlow, A large stockman, a medium stockman, and a sharp finger. happy collecting. G.M

Nice shot Larry!! Say, I was always under the impression that the barlow and the large stockman came out in '74, and the medium stockman and sharpfinger came out in '75. Were they all 1974 issue? (Makes sense since they were the 70th Anniv. knives).
