Hello,

Does any of you know how to adjust the Gerber Paul Knife? Mine is a bit to loose when applying side pressure. Any help would be appreciated.

afdk - On the right side of the pivot pin mechanism, you will see a small notch, or cutout on the outside diameter. This is the side with the US patent number on it. This ring has a threaded I.D., to mate with the 2 half moon pieces you see inside. With a spanner style wrench, you can tighten it. I made one out of a piece of flat stock. It took some time, with a file, but it works well. You could move it with other tools, like a small screw driver, but you will bung it up. I do not recommend doing it that way. For it to work smoothly and easily, there will be a small amount of side play to this mechanism. They are sweet knives. I have had many of them. What handle slabs is yours?

Dave.

Hello DavidZ,

Thanks for replying. I have the 2PW Paul Knife. I bought it in 1979 for $75.00 and its still in very good condition. Just had it sharpened by Lyle Brunckhorst, he is a knife designer/builder in Washington state. He did an excellent job. The knife has never been so sharp and I would recomend him definitly. I will try the adjustment with a tool I will make. Lyle told me he enjoyed seeing the Paul Knife again.

Regards......afdk

afdk - If you want to borrow mine, I will sent it to you, and you can make your adjustment, and copy the design if you like it. Then send in on back.

Dave.

Hello DavidZ,

I would like to borrow yours to make a copy. My address is 572 Evergreen Ave, Newbury Park, CA 91320. You will get it back!

Its a sweet heart of a folder. You can tigthen that pivot using a small mini pair of needle nose pliers in a pinch if you open the jaws and insert one in each slot. I've done it with my mini Bear jaws multi tool with my own.

afdk - I also have attached to the tool, a very small allen wrench, which fits the allen screw that adjusts the up and down blade play, if it needs it. My Knife only has one slot, not 2. That is why I needed the spanner wrench. With 2 slots 180 degrees apart, you might use needle nose pliers, like STR suggested, but it still might scratch. At least it would for me. Let me know how it works when you get it.

You know, I just read this thread and thought to myself - THIS is what BF is all about, instead of all the bickering and fighting over who copied what design, who's a shill or fanboy for which mfg, etc. Good job DavidZ!

Well said and well done.

Hello DavidZ,

Your envelope arrived on 2-17-07, but it is stamped (Damaged In Handling in the Postal Service). It looks like the envelope was damaged by the handling machines. It is totally wrinkled and opened, and then taped closed! The Yellow paper you wrapped the wrench in had holes in it. There is no wrench to be found! I'm sorry you lost your wrench by trying to help me.

I'll try and make one, and if successful mail it to you.

Regards..................afdk

I don't know if your 1979 version is the same as the Final Production Run in 1997, but here's a pic of mine for anyone interested.

@DavidZ

Are you still watching this thread? If so I would like to post some pix and ask some questions. Then get some more info about the tool you have.
