Hi, Does anyone know what steel Buck used on the 3 dot 1980 112FG, it doesn't look like 440C, I know that Buck used 1980 112 blades after 1980, but I'm not sure of the steel, I think the .112.. had 440C in 1980 like the 110, I know it can't be 420HC but it looks like it, it's flat to the edge, maybe 425M? the tang looks blanked not machined. Thanks George God bless

Hi, David
I thought that was the case , this blade looks like 420HC , I'll have to post a picture and you can see the blade shape it doesn't have the same shape as it go into the blade edge as 440C and its thin, the tang is polished to a hi-shine. George God bless

One of the reasons for the 3 dot stamp was to note a 'full hollow grind' had now been given to the blade. DM

Hi, David , I have to be stupid I must have had 40 to 50 1980 3 dots it never hit me that they had a flat grind like the later blades, I just got to looking at the 112's and most of what I have is 1972-74, I just had 2 together and noticed that, I wonder why Buck polished the tang on the FG 1980 3 dot. I have a 2012 FG it's tang is polished also. thanks very much George God bless

This was the first time Buck had given a ""Full Hollow Grind" to their blades. Your welcome. DM
