I have what I believe to be a Buck 119 made in 1981 and I am trying to confirm if this knife has 440C steel. The model in question has two micarta spacers at the pommel and one micarta spacer at the guard. Blade stamp doesn't have a "date stamp symbol", which puts this knife before 86 for sure, but the reason I feel its an 81 year model is the micarta spacers sequencing.

Any Buck collectors here that knows for sure what type of blade steel I have on this 119???

You'd receive more comments on this in the Buck Forum. A photo would help.
First, are you sure your 119 is from 1981? The reason is the spacer configuration you state is from 1980. Those of that year were more likely to have a blade of 440C. By 1981 Buck had already phased in 425M steel, early on. IF, the grind is a Full hollow grind with a thinner cutting edge. It most likely is of 425M steel. If the hollow grind is a semi-hollow grind with a thick convex at the edge your model 119 probably has a blade of 440C. I could tell more with a photo.DM

Thanks for the reply and insight. Since this place makes it difficult for "basic members" to post pics, I don't bother with it.

I have a some good pics of this 119 over on knifeforums in the General knife discussion under "Buck special 119" thread if you want to take a look. I have the same username there.

Listening to you talk, I might have the 425m steel. I'm still not certain tho.
