The very first LB7 style knife in the Scrimshaw series appeared in the 1981 set. It was pictured on the flyer (http://www.collectors-of-schrades-r.us/FLYERS/1980s/pages/SC81-11.htm) as being a near clone of the original 4 pin LB7. The handle pins were small and the blade was stamped "LB7". It featured a hot-stamped scrim of a bear with a salmon.

These earliest 4 pin examples of this knife are super hard to find in unused condition. Maybe it was just some bad luck but it took me a few years to finally snag one. Most examples of this knife are a 3 pin version stamped "SC507". This knife and the earliest "LB7" stamped LB8 knives are the only delrin handled LB7-type knives that have the 3 small handle pins. Very quickly (during the production runs of this knife) they went to 2 handle pins and when they returned, years later, to the 3 handle pin construction on delrin LB7-type knives the pins were much bigger (same size as lock bar pin). Last photo compares this knife to much later 3 and 4 pin knives to demonstrate the pin size difference.

I think it's a cool looking knife and I'm glad to finally have one that matches the flyer. It was sold as a "Irving Trachtenberg Collection" knife. The "chain of possession" and COAs with these knives are sketchy but I bet he did have one of these particular knives as the Scrimshaw line was his brainchild iirc. I don't really care one way or the other but that's the story. It's in my "Canuck Collection" now, that I'm sure of lol

Knife has some minor scratches from rattling around in a box over the years but I haven't polished or buffed it. I think it still looks good. The scratches aren't as harsh looking in person as in the photos. They are very shallow. The scrim is in real good shape so I include a close-up.

i like comparing the knives and how they differed over time. and you did a great job of that. not to mention showing off some great knives. is the DU one blued? looks like it is. and the lower on a drop blade?

Thanks delmas, yes and yes. Both of the others have been shown before. Both are DU. One delrin with blued blade and Baron etch, one burnt stag drop point. The stag one is on my user list and I really enjoy using it. These two just happened to be what were kicking around (in use or on display) as the bulk of my collection lives in a safe deposit box and I switch up 6-10 display knives monthly.

Very nice knives and great pictures. The closeup of the scrimshaw shows how detailed it is. On the couple of scrimshawed knives I have the date after the signature is easier to see.

I agree totally. Thanks for the kind words. The "81" on this scrim is kind of obscure but I think it's there in disguise.

Not neccesarily in this case, but quite often F.G. and other artists produced and dated their artwork the year prior to production release of the design for scrims. Nice pictures! Once again, I have camera envy!

A picture would help. But judging from the art and stamp you describe, it would be the mate to my 205SC Sharpfinger. Those two knives, with their pattern numbers reversed (502/205, 507/705) were made circa 1983 specifically for sale by K-Mart. A third pattern was the tiny LB-1 with a rabbit scrim. It was the first use of that one as a scrimshaw and it used the stock pattern stamp. They came individually in gift boxes with K-Mart specific papers. In the case of the Sharpfinger pattern, not only was the number reversed, but the tang was stamped on blade left and the artwork was mirrored and placed upon that side as well. It was a one-time experiment so these knives are uncommon today, particularly in new condition with box and papers.
