I've got a 1982 LTD Edition Boker Whittler on the way and wondered if anyone had any info about the blade steel? I imagine it is 1095 or C75. Also wanted to see if anyone had any random info on it like the type of Arkansas stone it comes with and any opinions from anyone who has owned this particular knife.

Personally would this be something you would carry or would it be a collector item?

Any info I could get could get would be great. I've searched this forum and found one post where some one posted a picture, but that's it.
Thanks in advance!

I'm not a Böker collector, but I am a Böker owner - their Solingen steel knives are very good knives. Several decades ago Böker was issuing quite a few "limited editions" - many knife companies were, they are now regularly seen on ebay, in pawnshops, second hand stores, etc., most still NIB. My view is that a limited knife issued in the 1000's are never going to send the kids to college - use it if it appeals to you! The stuff that becomes most valuable is the very limited run items, look what happens with the value of Blade Forum annual knives and SFO's - those are the real collectibles (if you want to preserve something) - most here use them. I inherited a lot of stuff from an old friend who kept most of it new-in-the-box - maybe that pleased him, but I think he would have enjoyed his collections more if he'd had the pleasure of using the stuff. My thoughts (for what they're worth!!) OH

Solingen steel, burled Thuya scales, brass liners, nickel siver pins + bolsters. I didn't find any specific reference regarding the stone.
(Solingen steel is nonspecific, simply indicating it's origins...I've seen 420HC, 440C, 1070 equivalent, 1095 equivalent, similar to 01, etc, etc referenced over the years. Somebody really into old Bokers may be better able to tell you the steel used in that particular knife)
