Here are the knives featured in the Sears Roebuck Christmas Wishbook for 1985. Some are readily apparent in their ancestory, and a few I don't recognize. Rare indeed, you will note that the Schrade tangstamp is actually clearly shown on a knife!

Thanks for posting the photos. I won an eBay auction for one of those Statue of Liberty knives with the poster. It was in new condition and I got it for a little over half the price listed in the advertisement. It exhibits the highest degree of fit and finish in my small Schrade collection.

I like the MINI frontiersmen set :thumbup:
Anyone ever see any of those pop up on EBAY???

I've also got one of the Statue of Liberty Commemorative knives in the box complete with the poster, I have seen them advertized with a flyer which has a black front does anyone know if the flyer came with the set? I also did not know that is was made for Sears, thanks for showing the wishlist Michael.

Nice scans Codger! I didn't realize Sears sold so much of the commemorative stuff.

Rusty, I don't think the Statue of Liberty knives were made for Sears, I believe they were made to commemorate the re-opening of the refurbished statue, with the leftovers sent out to distributors (need a confirmation from Codger on that one/ got it , I stand corrected, see post below). I don't believe the flywers came with the knives, here's a boxed gold edition with everything that came with it:

There were 500 gold editions, which have sterling bolsters, and 2000 plain etch with N/S bolsters. Both came with the sterling shield. See the "Statue of Liberty Collection" thread for more pics as I don't want to hijack this thread:o

Not a hijack at all, Eric. The reason I am posting these Sears catalog pictures here is to give you guys a chance to discuss and identify them. Excellent information. Recognize the others like the #15 above?

Very interesting Codger, I figured you'd have the answer:o:D. I always figured the Museum of the City of New York commisioned those, guess they needed some financers?:confused:

The statue renovation was quite expensive and fundraising took many forms.

Fund Raising for 1980's Renovation of Liberty and Ellis Island: $ 500,000 in January 1983
$ 277 million by July 1986:
$ 150.6 million from direct mail, foundations, collections
$ 66.3 million sponsorships
$ 51.9 million stamps, books, and coins
$ 8.2 million licensed products, t-shirts, souvenirs
$ 305.4 million by 6 March 1987

Thanks for the follow up info Eric & Michael, The letter mentions J C Penney. where do they fall in with the Sears Co, do Sears own J C Penney for instance.

No, both were Schrade customers. Sears and Kresge have now merged. You can buy Craftsman tools at K-Mart.
