I bought this Buck 303 for a few dollars (bet you thought I'd say "bucks" ;)) and am impressed with the value. According to the date code, this one is 25 years old. Obviously this Buck was rode hard and put away wet but it's got a lot of life left in it.

Here's a shot of the of the backsprings. Notice any gaps? Me neither.

The spring is also flush with the spine of the blade.

And here's a shot of the well with the blades closed. Absolutely no blade rub anywhere.

Not bad for a few "bucks" (:p)

Very nice. You might give the boys over on the Buck forum a gander as well. A 2-spring Buck-made 303 with brass. That's a rare bird for sure.

Congrats!

I didn't know they were uncommon. Thanks! I added some photos to the Buck forum also. Despite some serious use and abuse this knife still has excellent blade mechanics ...even compared to more expensive production knives.

Gees Jake...where in those photos does it tell of being rode hard..the knife looks just damn fine to me! Big bang for the buck ( sorry... I know you avoided the pun...I just had to ) )

The most I will go for traditionals is 2 blades.
However I sure wouldn't mind having one of those.
Man, what great fit.
I sure could get used to the third blade;):D

Thanks guys. I worked on the edges but I think two of the blades had been used as screwdrivers or pry tools. The edge is back now and there is absolutely no play in the blades despite the prior abuse. These are definitely hard working knives.

Hi supra -

Thanks for posting your pics , and nice pickup!

I learned something new from your post - thanks!

I plan on going to flea markets today in hopes of finding sweet deals like this. An old imperial kamp king has ignited a flame of passion for old knives

Well, First thing is you made the edges look great, I would grade this one pretty high for a used knife. Looks like this one was certain to have NOT been made on friday at 4:45 pm, very tight and nice.....this old 1986 dated (is 86 now old?) 303 is a Paul Boz heat treated 425M steel. The shield is the weakest link, with lots of EDC pocket carry (coins) the ink tends to rub off. This one is the second version of a Buck made 303 Stockman. The first will have all the features but will not be date stamped. A few were that way in late 1985. So, you want all the Buck shield models you will need to find four more.

I have had no gripes over the 425M steel.
