I'm thinking of adding one of these to my collection. I love the small Buck lockbacks, and have many of them. The Liberty and White Knight are two that I don't have yet.
My questions are:

1. Is this the same size as the 505 Knight?
2. Would the blade be 420HC?

Thanks in advance, JT

Here's a link to the original ad for the pewter handled model that was in Popular Mechanics back in 1985. These come up often and are relatively cheap. It is about the same size as the Knight.

The larger 500 Duke model handled with wood from Ellis Island's doors are harder to get and are worth much more.

I think Buck used 425 Modified steel then. Someone else might know more about it.

Check ebay for pricing.

JT, Wazu is just trying to stay clear of the forum rules concerning prices. As the rules page states you can't utter price and stores in same breath. Other than those that have dealer memberships we try to stay away from pricing.

But, your request is even tougher because you have asked about a discontinued model. Several years discontinued. You see them on the "bay" but folks always want top dollar, most times. Looking at pawn shops, antique stores, gun and knife shows will likely turn one up for you as lots were made and they are really not a 'user' model. I will say that you should find one after searching that is not very expensive. They came in a couple of versions, one with all metal scales and a piece of the copper skin embedded. And one with a epoxy over coating of the metal scales. They were packed in red, white and blue boxes so they stand out if you find one in a box. Knife is 420hc and is same size as the colored Statue model and Bald Eagle model. Good luck

300Bucks

The postage stamp gives you a size reference, the painted version was issued a few years later than others and has no disc of statue metal.

Herr's the Bald Eagle version.

Thanks for the pics and info 300. Great pics. I forgot about the pricing ... I'll edit that out.

Thanks Waz, for the info too. That old ad is really cool. I hadn't known about the little embedded copper piece. Cool little knife that I'll have to watch for a good deal on. Yes, I saw the ones at auction. Either expensive, or cheaper but with someone's else's name engraved on it - ehhh, not too sure about that.

Thx again, JT

Addressing your question about size. There are 11 different model numbers in this series. All share the same 1 7/8" blade and locking system. They are 425, 505, 506, 507, 515, 525, 526, 527, 529, 825, 826.

About the steel, Bucks standard steel was 425m from about 1981 to 1992 then 420HC after that.

These little knives are a wonderful collecting specialty covering everything from small plastic knives in bright colors, Stag, Damascus, Mother of Pearl, Pewter, Sterling Silver, stainless, Lucite, advertising knives..and on and on. These little knives cover it all.

L to R 506 White Knight (resins have yellowed with age), Stag c.2000, Damascus c.1998, Micarta, Idaho Stamp, Snow Leopard c.2000

A little 425 came free with my 110 about 12 years ago. It lives in my tackle box. Great little handy knife. Not sure why I've never bought a "upgraded" one.

They make great sweat pants knives for the pocket. The plastic ones even go thru the washer with no effect. 300
