1987 Buck 619 question

I have an older Buck 619 with the rubber grips, nylon sheath with the plastic sleeve. I think I got it around the mid 80's. Does anyone know what kind of steel Buck was using back then. It's still a beautiful knife and I almost prefer the rubber grips. I know they won't last as long as the new material they use but it's great when wet. Anyway, a few words of wisdom concerning what ever type of steel it is would be greatly appreciated!!

A rubber handled 119. I don't believe I've ever seen one. Do you have any pictures to post? I'd love to see that. Or do you mean a 619?

You are absolutely right, it is a 619 but thanks for the catch and steel type. I'll do a bit of research on that kind of steel. Any comments about it are also VERY welcome.

Guys, yes . Those are the Kraton handled Bucks and were featured in the 1987 catalog . Six models were offered . Habbie, collects them . I see them occasionally at shows . DM

Thanks for the info. Do you know how long Kraton usually holds up for? Mine is going on 24 years now and seems like new although it has not had very much use.

Hi - just read your post about the rubber handled 619 - I have one which is as new but alas doesn't have original packaging I have never used it,apart from admiring it- I would like to sell it due to it being surplus to requirements.

Being new to the forum, I'm sure that you aren't aware of two rules. You have to be a paid member (Gold Member or above) in order to sell or even ask for values and second, you can only offer for sale in the "Buck knives for sale" sub-forum.

What is the value of a 619 rubber handled ! What is a tang stamp! Your help greatly appreciated!

Hi Neilio, welcome to the Buck Forum. You dredged up a 6 year old thread, it would have been better to just start a new one. To answer your second question first, the "tang" is the flat area between the handle and the cutting edge of the blade. The stamp is whatever is printed (stamped) there. As to value, you are new here and probably and surely not familiar with the rules but value questions are only permitted by users with paid memberships to the forum. You would have known that if you had read post #14 just before yours. Best bet would to head on over to eBay and search completed auctions for "Buck 619". I just did and found 13.
