Sorry, no pics.

However picked up a 110 Work-Man today from 1988 and it does not look like brass bolsters. Did they make them in NS also?

Thanks!

I'm too lazy to get off the sofa and go look for mine but it does not surprise me. I'm pretty sure the 25th anniversary 110 issued that year had nickel silver bolsters. That at least tells us that N/S 110 frames were present in the factory that year.

I needed to get out of my chair. :)

I went and looked and I have one with a 1987 date stamp in NS. Nice looking knife.

You will see Workman 300s in black sawcut along with the cataloged grey sawcut, so it would not surprise me to see as you describe. 300

Yes ohen cepel the Workman was made with nickel silver bolsters. I had to sleep for a while and it came to me in a dream that I had the Workman Brochure and Price List for 1987 tucked into a corner of a display cabinet. Here is your knife:

AHA oregon you just answered a question on a Buck Apron I got about a month ago. I see it listed on your paperwork in the above post. I was wondering if the apron was employee issue or sold as an accessory. Now I know.

ohen cepel included is a version of the 110 WorkMan, with N/S bolsters.

Another 110 workman but not from '88.

Good to hear. Your item is Machinist Loop Neck Apron 030-30. On the 1987 Price Sheet, I believe that they came in a three pack, 3-030-30/8273 Shop Apron (shown 5th row up from the bottom of the page). That is a macho apron and a cool find. Is there a story of discovery you can tell? Hanging in a barn, found in an attic trunk, being worn by an uncle at a barbeque or .....

Anyone know what the blue Buck in the top left corner of the work man ad is? If so has anyone seen one of these? Rareness? Chances of me finding one? HAHA

Sure, no, rare, slim.

It is a 424 BL/8201, Buck Basic "All-Purpose" Knife. I've never seen one in a Workman format. That makes it rare in my estimation. There is always a chance as long as you live. BTW you can have the latest version (not blue, unfortunately) of the 424, on closeout/disco for $10, from the company store (one of my all time favorite pocket knives and part of my EDC along with folding scissors and nail nips).

I have something very very similar: Cublite 414 catalog #1299 and that is the knife pictured here with the paperwork:

The 424 was dormant, not produced for a decade, until it was brought back from the dead for Canadian Tire (seen in the blister pack). Notice that modern versions have no nail nick while the ancestors all do. The Buck factory store has only the one color black. If you compete on the open market for the Cublite you go up against not only Buck collectors but Scouting collectors as well so pristine examples can sometimes cost dearly while users not so much. I found a pretty good user at OKCA one years for $20. They are a real good shade of blue.

Wow thanks for the quick info! I guess I will just keep my eyes open. That is a really nice cublite you have! I looked at the "current" for sale on the Buck site, but cannot say I like the looks too much. Oh well...
Thanks again,
Bruce

I agree with David - you guys are good. Producing a brochure that's nearly 30 years old, fantastic. And the apron is great too.

Thanks to all!

Mine doesn't have the Buck shield on it so that version is out there.

Now, of course you guys are also bad since there is now a whole new/old line of things I "need" to look out for now :-)

Great stuff guys, and photo posting from the master...Oregon. Wow, this was from back in the era of Buck darts and Swiss Bucks. I have a couple of the pruning style knives and I know someone here specially collects them but can't remember who. I know I have one that says Workman and is bubble packed but the plastic package is yellowing and cracking. I have to handle it gently. I guess we should be like the Traditional forum and instead of getting a forum knife we could get Buck Forum shop aprons.........300

No idea the Workman series was so extensive. What years was this series offered?

"Workman" IMHO was a division created within Buck. Your question is a great research question a BCCI membership gives a whole library of material to sift thru in order to find a good answer to. I don't know but there is a fella in St Lewis area who probably does.

That Cublite took years to acquire and cases of noodles at meal time, no kidding. It is a prized piece, NIB with paperwork. My pleasure. I love this stuff.

Man you guys are good. Impressed someone saved a brochure. DM

This forum, its members, moderator and beloved benefactors set a high standard. Desert, holds a coyote by one hand, Dave your terrific posts are worth their weight in gold. You have 1/2 a beer coming. The legacy knives and other products are fantastic in the depth they bring to the marque and Marques: Buck, Workman and Ultrablade. I betcha that I've left some out.

Everyone should have one of those aprons. No kidding. A BCCI project perhaps...

Thanks to all!

The shield on the brochure knives: Buck has some pretty cool shields. But I'm going to make a ruling: Those are stickers. Sticky stickers stuck on the knife and not inset shields. The workman line could have produced products for other brands and they look like stickers to my sore eyes.

Thank you for the kind words 300. Forum aprons: good idea. When coveralls are too much but some classy protection is in order. I watched the video of CJ gifting the set of Missionary Knives to his Father that happy rainy Summer's day at the 25th years ago now and it got to me. I emailed CJ a link to the YouTube page where the video page is kept and mailed him a cd and chip both containing the video. Fathers and sons. I wish I could see a video of my d,ad even though both of us had some hard bark.
