Just curious because I have one in good condition but the plastic handle is busted and I've reshaped it into a real nice looking knife, wondering if I can heat treat and temper it? Thanks.

Never mind, heat treated and tempered today and came out great, super sharp knife. You can literally go cut wood then slice a sheet of paper like a razor blade with this thing, my thumb found out all to quick. I also made the scales, out of a tailgate bedliner cover from an old truck I used to have, turned out great and textured grip works out nice, used two ply's per side making the handle nice and fat at around 3/4" across the top. I made the blade 5" and the handle 4-7/8". Over all great little knife and should work good as a camp/woods all rounder. It fits my NRA embossed sheath perfectly, still have a good bit of sanding and polishing on the blade to get it where I want it, here's a couple pics.

Little fresh thumb blood on the blade in this pic,...

Wow, nice job! That looks awesome. Ontario uses 1095 Hi Carbon in their machetes and it is awesome for holding a good edge. It will be interesting to see how your heat treat holds up.

Thanks, good to know, I've done some more polishing on it and its really brightened up. As for the rest of the machete, here is what I made of it, can't waste that good sharp steel! I will get a spine shot with the thumb notches to. This is a pretty sweet chopper, 8 inch blade, 12.5 inch overall and it's nasty sharp, bust right through some wood easily, gonna modify the original hard plastic sheath for it tomorrow, its an od green, should be cool.

I restyled the blade to more of a subtle bowie style, I also put all black hardware on the scales. I like it much better this way, here's a couple pics.

Very Interesting. I like what you've done. Perhaps you should recess the screws on the scales to finish it up.

Or not. LOL

Thanks, only reason I didn't is because the Polypropylene is a little soft and I am afraid the allen head's will pull through when I tighten them, they tighten nicely this way and you really can't even feel them.
