1991 Vanguard

Possibly. I've seen 1992 listed as the date Buck switched to 420HC at least with regards to the 110 so based on that I'd think it would be 425M.
 
Yes, to both posts. If you have a Vanguard with a + stamped blade I'd say it is of 425M steel. All model knives did not switch to 420HC in 1992 so exceptions exist. But the rule of thumb is Buck phased in that steel in 1992 (-). A upgrade steel from 420. Good find. DM
 
Thanks to you both for the replies. Nothing wrong with Buck's current line-up (my new Mesa is everything a woods-walking knife should be), but I love collecting the older ones.
