So my dad had a collection of knives that got passed down to me, and I found this Buck 691, figured out it was made in 94 due to the \ marking, but also noticed mine has PAT. PEND. right above the handle along with the rest of the markings, but when looking online I noticed that the only ones for sale are ones that don't have the pat pend marking and are also in a different spot on the blade, i can't find any information about this so I was wondering if anyone here may know anything about this and if it's actually worth anything

Welcome to the Buck Forum. Post a photo of the knife, there are many knowledgeable people here willing to help with information.
As per forum rules you have to be a paying member before values can be discussed.

Buck Collector's Club model history shows the 691 in the 1993 catalog. Don't know if that is the first year it was out but would assume so. In the catalog it's called 'The Zipper' and the grind of the gut hook is emphasized. So maybe they patented that.

My guess is that if the PAT. PEND. is stamped, Buck had trouble with it. Either a lot of waste because of breakage or placement and stopped trying after a short time. That guess goes out the window if it is etched. Again a photo would help.

USING IMGUR TO POST PICTURES ON A FORUM

You can't post an imagedirectly to a forum? That is almost always because you are not a paidmember.

Create an account (free) at Imgur.com. Create an Imgurname, like a forum name here.

To post a picture you have saved(probably in the "picture" file) on your computer:

Goto IMGUR.COM

Click on "Browse" at Imgur (whichautomatically appears when you open IMGUR,)

"Open"the picture you want to copy or "drag" that picture to theIMGUR screen (you will be prompted as to where to put it by IMGUR.).This saves the picture to Imgur.

Put cursor on your IMGUR nameat upper right to drop down a menu of actions.

Click on "[yourImgur name] images" on the menu that drops. Images that you havesaved to IMGUR will appear in a grid to the left.

Left clickon the image in the grid that you wish to share here.

On theright side of the screen, a list of options appears. Click on blue"Copy" tab on "BBCode" () from the list ofoptions.

Go to forum page where you want picture to show upand "paste" link you just copied from Imgur on that page.Your image will appear in your post so long as it is still saved inIMGUR.

It gets easier and easier as you use it. Copied fromBF member, Thomas Linton.

The 191/691 were introduced in the 1991 catalog as the Quest. (difference is the handle) The gut hook was found to be insufficient in size. It was re-designed larger and released in 1992 as the Zipper. The enlarged guthook is the patented feature. The tang mark is moved from above the guard to parallel to the spine sometime in 1994(?) and the PAT PEND notation removed.
