I got this beauty a few months back and had it sent in for a new edge, sandblast, and reissued documents. Its literally like new aside from the light scratches on the blade from a previous owner. I don’t know how much its been sharpened aside from what CRK did at their shop to remove a couple of small chips from the belly.

This one has a very nice stonewash that I would call mirror stonewash these days as it looks very different than my modern Chris Reeves, say from the Sebenza Classic/21 onward. Definitely seems like they used different media back then for the tumble. It has no blade markings and no scale date stamps, so that right there should put it before 1997 as thats when they started that practice.

The grind height on this one also seems different than my 2002 Regular, 2004 Regular, and my 2007 Regular which are all in S30V. But I have also seen later model BG-42 Regulars (1999-2002) with similar blade shapes to my S30V Models so I know all BG-42 models dont have the same blade grind. Mine definitely appears less refined I guess? If that makes sense? For example the grind height at the plunge grind definitely travels farther up the blade on my S30V models whereas this one has that more pronounced curve to it which falls further down under the thumbstud.

Just wanted to know everyones thoughts as I don’t have the original birthcard so I don’t really know. Does the blade shape look right to you? Cause I’ve also seen ones with with a hell of a lot more belly but I believe those were some of the very early Regulars from 1995 I think.

It's never needed to be taken apart...so I don't know.
You don't need to take it apart. You can peek in(blade open, just to inside of lanyard hole). Possibly add a little light from a flashlight

Thanks. I wasn't familiar with all the minutiae. I'll have a look and see what I can. Back soon.

Nothing visible with a pair of strong reading glasses I use for detail work. (Checked with a headlamp...nothing.)
Must mean that they used scales manufactured prior to the change in 1997 for your knife assembled in 1998.

Old stock, I’ve seen it done with Sebenza 31’s as well where the birth card says 2022 and the scales say 21.

May very well be. I had spoken to Anne on the phone when she told me she had that knife available as someone had just contacted them to back out of a transaction. (It was my good luck as it was to be a birthday present from my wife.)

Whatever the case, the knife is outstanding in every way...smooth as a...yeah, that.
