Hey Guys,

I have finally clocked 1 K!. Most of the posts on this forum. I just wanted to give a big thanks to all of you guys for making this forum an awesome place. This forum would not be the same without our Mods, Blues and Gus. Of course our in house writer, Jackknife. Whose stories have caused me to buy quite a few knives.

I am a third year doctoral student in NYC. The work has definitely pinned me down to a computer. Every time I am in here, I am taken to another place where the people are friendly and folksy. I love this forum!!

What does this forum mean to you?

God Bless

We're happy to have you and the enthusiasm you bring to the forum, Kid.

Keep at those books (and computer screens). The hard work will bring dividends.

Congrats on the post count, kid. 'Good on ya' as our Aussie cousins down under would say.

Keep up the studies, it'll pay off in the long run. Building a future ain't an overnight job. Every great castle has to have a solid foundation before they start laying those stone blocks up one at a time. It seems like it takes forever, but one day you look around and you've run out of blocks because you're done. Think of the sense of triumph you will feel on that day!

What does this forum mean to me?

It's like a green oasis in the middle of a bleak desert. The desert being the 'net.

I've stopped going to most of the different forums because of the people. But I stay here because of the people. It's different here. There's a relaxed atmosphere here that you don't find on other places in the 'net.

To me this place is an electronic equivalent of an old country store with a sagging front porch, a bunch of wooden chairs scattered around a cracker barrel. There's always some wood chips on the floor where ya'll have been whittling. A stranger is always welcome to come and sit a spell, and take out his pocket knife and pick up one of the sticks laying around and make a toothpick if he wants. There's a dented up old perculator coffee pot on the stove inside, and anyone is welcome to take one of the beat up old chipped enamal tin mugs and help themselves to a cup of joe.

When you leave, you can almost hear someone say; "Ya'll come back now, hear?"

Kid,

Like my brothers before me in this thread, keep up the studies. This forum is better because you are here.

Thank you for all you bring to this place.

JK you as always have written a great description of what this forum means to me and thanks to you and the regulars (both old and new-commers) it survives in a larger world where simple things have lost value.

Tell you what, when I step out on my front porch on Saturday morning with my coffee and my knife and holler "what did you kids do with my whittlen' sticks THIS time?" I know there are a group of folks who would laugh right along with me if they were here. So we can't sit around on each others front step...we sit around here and it's nice place to be. Best wishes for your success in school.

What does this forum mean to me? Well, I'm a newbie here; only discovered this forum a couple of months ago. I'm somewhat of an oldster otherwise, having been born in the late 1940's. Anyway, I come here every night, usually for 2 - 3 hours, if not 4 or 5. I sit here in my recliner with my laptop and read current and old posts on this site. I hardly watch television any more because I find BladeForums much more interesting.

What I find most amazing is the sense of community around here, and the support and consideration members show each other. We're a pretty diverse bunch of people - white collar, blue collar, office workers, skilled tradesmen, hands-on laborers, students, etc. - people who have a knife budget/collection running into the thousands of dollars, and people who have to save up to buy a 30 dollar knife - education levels that no doubt run from PhD's to never graduated from high school - people in their 60's and 70's, and teenagers - yet I've never gotten a sense that anyone thinks they're better than anyone else around here. What I see is a bunch of people (friends, actually) exchanging experiences, thoughts and ideas. It's a darn nice place to just hang out for a few hours each evening.

The Traditionals Forum is the Folksiest place at BFC, people are movin' at a slower pace here, everyone seems to show more respect for each other and everyones welcome, just leave the attitudes at the door.

Congrats Kid on the 1k and glad to see ya around here.

Welcome kidwholaughs. This forum brings to me friends who I wouldn't know passing on a street. If we ever met at a knife show somewhere, we would know each other enough to go on for hours.

It's great having you here kid. Good luck with the studies, I know that getting your doctorate is hard work, but it's worth it. Keep it up!

Congrats, Kid! I'm impressed by anyone who makes it into the medical field.

This subforum means a lot to me. I found that I'm not the only one with the steel sickness. I have stopped carrying soul-less tactical knives, and started a (very small so far) traditional collection. Thanks to Jackknife and his stories, I only carry two knives on an EDC basis, and one is a peanut.;)

I'm spending more time outdoors with my boys.

I really enjoy the atmosphere in here. I live in a mid-sized city, so I don't really have the old country store with the sagging porch available to me. And yet, I do, when I'm here. You guys, the Traditionals regulars, are a fine bunch of people. Thanks for allowing me to be a part of this group.

Hey man, congrats! I've got you beat on years though---I'm a 7th year PhD student! You certainly have me beat on posts, but I'm on my way. I personally haven't spent a lot of time in here with you guys, but I honestly feel my interests shifting more towards the refined, classy, and very possibly traditional, so I bet you'll see me back before too long. The atmosphere is certainly alluring (or so my lurking suggests) and I think you guys have it about right. Plus, I grew up on a farm, so you know..

See you guys around, and congrats again. :)

Congrats.. I'll bet when you started, you thought there is no way you'd make it to 1,000 posts :D

Good luck on the degree. After you get done and get a good job, you can come and share the pics of all your custom slip joints

I come here daily to see if anyone put up pics of their newest knife, learn something new, and in general chat with a lot of good folks that all have the same interest.

However if the quality of people wasn't what it is, I would be here a lot less.

There are members I consider friends even though we have never met before. I'm very picky about my friends, and there are certain personality traits a friend must have . Those traits or qualities are evident in a lot of the folks that hang out here .

When you meet someone in person, you get a feel for who that person is. It's the same thing here. You can tell a lot about a person by what they write...
I can honestly say that if this little s/f was to be closed down  for some reason, I would be lost. There are days I spend 6-8 hours or more on here...
I'm sure some would say thats a problem and that I need help. They may be correct...

I love knives and still have a decent collection after my downsizing. But the urge to have to be getting something new every day, isn't there anymore.
In some ways it has become more of a social thing. I'll still get new knives occasionally, but I have to say, I find the communication and looking at pics of other folks knives is just as satisfying. YMMV

Keep at it(both the study&the forum posting)

What's it mean to me? A chance to escape from the daily grind-no not sharpening up Queen D2..-exchange thoughts, read, learn be impressed by many knives, this is the University of Cutlery my alma mater.

Keep with the education to improve your future. What this forum is to me is a step away from the fast paced world to a better way of life where everyone will help each other as friends even with not having met before. Some of the actions I have read on this site have prompted me to slow down and offer help to strangers, most people are still good they just forgot. Also some great knives.
