Anyone been out on the water yet? I drove out to the lake a couple weeks ago, and there was only a small patch of open water. Last week I checked out a local creek that should make for a nice easy 5 mile trip if the weather ever breaks. It's going be be 30 degrees (f) tomorrow, but is supposed to be 55 for at least the following three days. Unfortunately, the weather is also calling for 70-90% chance of rain. Even so, I may go for it (especially if I can talk one of my friends into going along.) So...who's been on the water already? And who is itching to?

Still a bit icy here, but when the weather breaks I need to get the garage cleaned out to build a couple of boats. My canoe pile is under a snow pile. :grumpy:

Here is a quick vid of my buddy in my winter boat. He aint no virgin no more.:D

Wow! That looks fun!

As for being on softer water... Monday will be in the low 60's and sunny. I also have a friend to go with me. If all goes as planned, I'm gonna be the winner of this thread if somebody else doesn't get in the water real soon. :)

Man I don't know where you live to be going out on the water yet . Right now as I type this I can look out my window and see people out on the ice IN THEIR TRUCKS ice fishing :disillusionment:

I guess I could take my kayak to a hill and go tobogganing

I'm in SW Pennsylvania near the whitewater sections of the Youghiogheny (pronounced Yock - like rock) River. I see tough guys paddling year 'round—in dry suits, of course. The river rarely freezes over. In any case, I'm don't even pretend to being tough. For now, there's still ice on the lakes. The river and creeks are flowing fine, though. I'll definitely be in a wetsuit and paddling jacket (assuming it all comes together.) The creek is shallow-ish, narrow and flat. Otherwise, I'd probably be waiting a few more weeks.

I've rode my mountain bike everyday and have been out kayaking about once a week all winter long and even rode the kayak to the bar for lunch one day and locked it up outside. :D The comments as the patrons rolled in were great!
We had a lot of wind storms and I'm not sure anyone else has ever kayaked this creek so there was a lot of downed trees that needed to be cleared in order to boat through freely. Spent several days with the saw and branch trimmers, cutting and clearing debris but now have decently smooth passage.

Here in south east Michigan, we got hit hard with snow along with crazy cold temps. Fortunately last week was the first time I got wet and I was close to home so no big deal.
There is a creek in the backyard that didn't freeze over very often. While out kayaking yesterday, I got a good look at the flooding thats starting to take place and fighting the current was damn tough in a few spots. Also spotted some ice testicals that worked for a good picture with the Hinderer and McGizmo.

Heres an old bridge built in the 1890's that the creek flows through.

Scott Free speaking of testicals you must have quite a pair to be kayaking in that . I don't know how you can even get them into that little kayak LOL

Great pics and good on you for getting out there and doing it . Just pay safe when it comes to the flood season . Fast water can be a killer , especially when it's freezing cold .

I think you have me mixed up with the real tough guy here—dafabricata. I'm still waiting for a nice weather day. As things stand, it's gonna be Tuesday. There will be two of us—perhaps three. I'll be in solo canoe. They should be in kayaks. Forecast is for mostly sunny and 68 degrees! :)

Have not been out yet but I did pick up a second yak today. A emotions spit fire 8. Hope to get it wet soon.

The Mississippi just thawed out this week where I'm at. I'd go out this week but since my son just arrived to the world via c section I can't leave my wife by herself with our 3 yr. old yet. Maybe next week. I am itching to get out there!

I finally got on the water today! It started out with a Class I-II drop, but the rest of the five mile trip was just pleasantly moving water. Hope the rest of you guys can get out soon! :)
