What would be your first and second choice in a 5-7" fixed blade knife in the $300.00 or less range? IN the case of this question and that of the folder question, I mean a knife that would do it all from everyday chores to tactical potential.

First choice would be a busse, but that'd break the bank.
I'd say there two would be my choices then:

1 Fehrman Last Chance $265 w/ kydex sheath

2 Swamp Rat Camp Tramp $130

1. A Busse from the exchange. If your a speedy shopper, users can be had for $300.

2. Fehrman Shadow Scout, I think these are under $300.

Also look at Swamp Rat, Ranger Knives, and TOPs.

R.J. Martin Manta Ray, great knife, can be found for around 300.00. Blade is less than 5", still a great all around user, double edged.

The Sean O’Hare Raven in S30V, and the Chris Reeve Neil Roberts Warrior.

I own both, use both, and trust that they could both perform well under very adverse conditions.

Oh the big boys.

I'd go with a Vaquero Grande by Cold Steel. Its my favorite big knife I think.

I really like my Benchmade Nimravus in M2. Haven't found a task yet that it couldn't do and it can be had for around $100.00

It is a little less in length than your 5-7" range but what's a 1/2"

In a folder, the first choice is a CUDA MAXX 5.5" and the second choice is a CUDA MAXX 7". In a fixed blade, I recommend a lot of patience and an order of a Model 12 6" Sportsman's Bowie from Randall for $280. This is the knife that I have had and used for over 40 years and I have NEVER felt that I have needed more or better. Of course, it cost all of $25.00 in 1961.
