Don't tempt me Steve! That is a fine looking Bowie! Are we going to be seeing more of your work in Bowies??

Seriously, that's exactly what my face looked like when that picture came up. That's outstanding.

Gorgeous bowie. I do have one thing to pick apart. Really, it's more of a preference, as nobody would call it a fault. I would prefer to see some kind of ferrule between the guard and the nice wood spacer. I also like to see spacers between the different handle materials. But, that's just my preferences. Nice job on this bowie, and anybody would be proud to own it. :)

One other comment/question. I love the blade, but how do you get any contrast using a mix of 1095/O1. My understanding is that both of those steels get really dark when etched. What, in that mix, comprises the shiny layers?

Thanks for all the replies, and the encouragement. Gary, this is partly your fault. You keep buying them I will keep building them.

The damascus is thunderforge damascus, I just put it into the ferric chloride for a couple of hours and this is what came out. I know the composition only because that is what I was told it was. Which is the shiney and which is the dark I could not tell you.

Thanks
Steve

Ah, that explains it. Thunderforge damascus actually contains a good bit of L6, which contains a good bit of nickel. That's where the shiny layers are coming from. Again, beautiful bowie! :)

Actually, I think the shiny layer is just nickel. My texas knifemakers supply catalog lists thunderforge damascus as a mix of middle and high carbon steel with nickel, and says that it heat treats like O1 and 1095 (which kind of suggests thats what the 2 steels are  )
