Ok. I had made a thread about using only my BK2 for a week straight. Balboa said try making a spoon and I figured that's a good idea. I've never tried a bushcraft style spoon. Well here's how it went:

1st picked a piece of pine and battoned a nice straight grained chunk of it:

2nd started making a few guide chops and then lightly battoning to get a coarse shape:

3rd start some deep love taps on the area I wish to hold the food item in (the spoon part of the spoon lol). I battoned the end of the knife lightly and the BK2 has that perfect base for it:

4th using the tip of the knife I just did some taps and shaves trying to get a better shape going:

5th was reminded that sharp knives will cut you if you are careless (just grazed myself by being careless in how I was holding the spoon). I am rather embarassed by this little mishap, but figured it's a good reminder to all of us that edge awareness is essential in all tasks:

6th finished to the best of my ability before I would start with some sandpaper of sort (but this isn't about sanding, etc. this was to show what I could do with only my BK2):

Conclusions.....I stink at making spoons and this definitely takes some practice. What is shown above took me about 20 minutes and was very labor minimal (didn't take much effort). I'm sure with more practice I could turn out a better one. In the future I'll post one that looks much better when have a better grasp on what works and does not. Please feel free to give any tips/critiques and also post pics of yours if you've done any.

Thanks brother. I'm not sure it's nicely done, but I'll take a compliment when I can get one. I'm pretty sure I'd get at least a couple splinters eating off that thing HA!

Getting that concave bowl shaped out is tough without a too designed for that! I applaud your efforts!

Psyop,
Thank you sir. I appreciate it.

Nathan,
That is doubtful but I appreciate the kind words. You do one. Post it up. I'd like to see others' bushcraft spoonage! ("bushcraft spoonage" sounds naughty)

Spoons are fun but I don't think I could make a decent one without the spoon knife lol.

Does that Mora spoon knife work well Psyop? Was thinking about getting one, but I see some negative stuff about them. Mainly, that it comes not so sharp.

As The Tick would say, "SPOOOOOOOOOON!!!!!!!!!"

Awesome work. Just remember, spoons are cool but chopsticks are easier. :D

I saw a few tricks on youTube myself. I may go ahead and get one. I hate to spend $50 on a "nice" one.

EDIT: Hell with it, I ordered one.

Psyop,
Them be some fine looking spoons sir.

Moosez & barman,
I swear I still say that to my dog. The kids think I'm weird but they just don't get the awesomeness of "SPOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOON"

Warrior,
You know you have to do a spoon and post it after ordering that piece of equipment, right?

Mezmerized,
I'm looking forward to seeing yours.
