Well after a couple of months of being a day late on the exchange listings crusing for a SJ. I called Busse today and low and behold they had a Satin Jack laying around with no handle scale attached. Needless to say I jumped on it and in a week or two after they rustle up a handle, it shall finally be mine.

One option offered was to have the blade bead blasted. Since I plan on using this as a work knife is there any advantage to having this done? How durable is the standard black coating?

Thanks,
Smitty the Busse newbie

Smitty,

Welcome to the team my friend. . . Now listen closely to my advice. . . . . Hide your INFI!!!! These hogs can slop it up faster than you will believe! If any of them volunteer to baby-sit your INFI blades for you while you're on vacation. . .. . DON'T BELIEVE IT!!!!

Oh, and when in doubt. . . . .do as I do. . ..

. . . . "I BLAME PORKERSON!"

Congrats and welcome!

Jerry

Welcome Smithph,

It was a pleasure speaking with you earlier. Enjoy the SJ when it arrives.

Don't listen to Jerry, no one else does :D:D

Smitty,
Welcome to the forums, glad you stopped by. I would go with the standard Black Coating. Use it, abuse it and then if you choose to at a later date you can always have it Bead Blasted to clean it up.

:D:D

Thanks for your kind words and advice.

Those hogs can be prime pork for sure. Not only do they park along the exchange feeding bin they perform tactical strikes on EBAY just pico seconds before listing closings on any Busse or SwampRat knife posted.

Glad this northern Ohio native is finally getting some quality Ohio steel.

You mean after all this time wishing for a Satin Jack there was one sitting around at the shop??? :(
*eyes well up with tears*
*upper lip quivers*

Nice find, sir! :D

Congrats Smitty!

Get the bead blasted, you'll love it:D
INFI is highly resistant to corrosion and if the finish marrs excessively you can just re-blast it:cool:

Just got back from Texas today and under the usual pile of bills my wife leaves for me was a USED 3/16" SJ. Seems my wife just had to test it out and claims it cubes semi-frozen chicken breasts better than anything else she tried and thanked me for getting it for her.

Teaches me to go out of town when there is inbound INFI.....

Shaggi, thanks for recommending the desert handle, sweeeeet!

Thanks to you'al

Welcome Smitty!

Beleive what they say about Porkerson! He has been stealing my stuff for years...:grumpy:

You do know that when you get your first, you have to show pics! We want pics man!

Welcome to the Busse Forum Smitty!

Congrats on the Jack, what a way to start. You have no idea what you have gotten yourself into.;) You are on the verge of an INFI addiction that will shake you to the core of who you are.:D You will LOVE IT! oh and by the way - "a week or two" will probably be closer to "Two Weeks":D

Thought I would close this out with a field report. 1st the Satin Jack is just Fricking Great.

I made the semi-annual wack & slash trek around the back forty this weekend. This is a Southern thing property owners have to do to slash back & de-vine trees and wack back the Kudzu, brambles and sticker bushes.

This trip I left my trusty pilot's knife and old cane machete on the work bench. The pilot's knife is missing the original tip and the cane machete resembles an extra long filet knife after many regrindings over the years.

This trip I took the new Satin Jack and a new Becker Patrol Machete. Unlike previous outings with the cane machete and pilots knife no additional tools (camp axe) or return trips were needed. I found the Satin Jack to be quite the little chopper. It was great for de-vinning trees and light chopping.

Now if Jerry would only roll out a 14-16" Machete Mistress those overhung sticker bushes would shrivel up in fear. Yaaa that’s the ticket a Busse Machete Mistress!!!

Oh did I mention the Satin Jack is Fricking Great????

Thanks to everyone for your recommendations and help.

Smitty
