1st cable damascus

I can't really make out much of the pattern on the blade but the Bocote? is really sweet! Nice lines too IG. I like the abrupt end on the butt.

BTW, I'm sure you have seen all the posts about the Frink machine. It really is nice and is well worth your consideration. Let us know what you end up doing. :)

Nice piece! :)

I don't know if it's the scan or my old monitor, but it's hard for me to see the pattern as well (and we know it's there! ;) ).

Very well put together all the way around!

fun bike leaked oil like a sivie no matter what i did, O the knife nice i love that bocote, the light on the blade is a little dark to see. the design looks great!

Thanks guys for the kind words.
Nick: I hoping Santa is bringing me a digital camera.
Bruce B.: I am getting over the damascus bug, I am starting to make knives again with the other billets. I still have to make a 4 bar composite twisted billet.
Peter: I am planning on getting the Frinks grinder in the beginning of next year. I have a motor and speed control waiting for it.

Will: This billet had a few small voids, but first few cable billets I made were loaded with inclusions. I finally found a technics that work for me.

Nice stuff. I come back after being away 3 weeks and you have a cable knife finished. I made a cable billet before I went away and forged, ground and HT a small section of it to try a blade. Now I just have to be able to physically get out to the shop and finish it. I can only hope it turns out to be as nice as yours did.
What did you etch it with and how long? Did you blue it after or is it just a dark scan? What kind of cable did you start with? I found some improved plow cable that I got for a case of beer. Not a bad price for about 30 feet of cable.

Robert: It was the same type of cable that you have. I etched it with ferric acid and vinegar (50/50 mix). I had to do it 6 times at 5 min. cycles. The edge really did etch as will as the soft spine area. I used Tool Black on the blade.
