I recently aquired my first CRK, a Sable IV that i got from one of the good people here at bladeforums. Without a doubt i can honestly say it is the finest knife that i have ever owned.

I love the edge geometry on this knife. A lot of knives are ground with the edge too thick IMHO, the Sable is ground to my taste out of the box, and one of the sharpest knives out of the box that i have ever seen BTW. I also like the single guard as i am able to get my thumb on the back of the blade.

I have done enough searching here to not have to ask "what do i put in the handle?". My question is WHY, WHY DID I WAIT SO LONG TO GET A CRK? This thing is just begging to be used. With any luck, the Sable is going to have a date with a whitetail buck this fall!

Congrats on your first CRK and great choice, the Sable IV is my favorite CR fixed blade, I've been meaning to pick one up for a long time. You obviously recognize the quality that is built into a CRK's. Now you just need to get yourself a Sebenza to go with that Sable. :D

Congrats on your new sable, there a excellent choice with a great handling feel to them. Good Luck with it !

Question :
I am deciding between a Sable or a Mountaineer.
Have you considered a Mountaineer ?

what made you decide on a Sable ? was it the blade shape ?
I also noticed that the sheath of the Sable is just a tad different from that of the Mountaineer (not hollow rivets).

thanks.

The first knife i considered was actually the MK VI. I basically went with the sable for blade shape (looked like the most utilitarian, and easiest for me to resharpen) and that it had a single guard. Go with whatever one looks best to you.
