I've been a knife nut for as long as I can remember and have had my share of nice quality fixed blades and folders both production and customs. I never got around to picking up anything from CRK until recently. Just got my hands on a nice (user) lefty Sebenza 21 off the exchange. I'm wondering now what took me so long. A friend let me handle his Sebenza in the past and my first impression was "what's the big deal". Funny how perceptions change. There aren't any fancy scales or flame job on the titanium. The grind and blade shape are rather ordinary. No flipper or assisted opening. It's just another folding knife, well kind of..... After getting one in hand and really spending some time with it, I'm amazed by the simplicity and engineering that goes into these folders. It's really everything you need and nothing you don't. The tolerances are absolutely incredible and is something I think you need to handle quite a few different knives to really appreciate. I'm really looking forward to putting this one to good use and am thankful that I can look to future CRK offerings that cater to us lefties! Here's a quick photo of my score. :D

enjoy! i find it funny though that the book you've got there shows a regular (or standard) Sebenza and the caption says it's a classic... anyways use it well and clean it here and there

I really agree to what you said. The design is so attractively simple and nothing fancy and nothing non-functional. I love the way it looks, how it feels in our hand. The design and mechanics are well thought-out. It's really for people who appreciate craftsmanship and not about "showing-off my fancy blade".

I too thought the same thing when I got my first Sebenza. I also felt the same with the Umnumzaan.......I was like " What Took Me So Long "....!!!

It's always great to see more lefties around here. I've had large left-handed 21 for a little over a week now.

Amazing, simply an amazing knife.

You are right, though, I don't think I would have appreciated the Sebenza until recently. Like a thread over in General Discussion mentioned, you won't really understand or appreciate a Sebenza until you have owned and used a fair amount of knives in the $100-200 range.

I mean I love my Sage II, but after getting a Sebenza I'm starting to see it in a new light. The Sage II's blade doesn't contact the stop pin all the way across the tang of the blade - while the Sebenza's does - and titanium on the lock bar is so soft that it has indented where it contacts the blade.

...and if you ever sell it, you will feel incomplete until you pick up another one. you have been warned. :)

They are the ultimate engineered folding knife for keeping it simple and properly functional, as is Chris's philosophy. Congrats on your 1st! It won't be your last.

Congratulations on your first Seb!
You explained everything spot on.
Appreciation for knives is something you definitely pick up after handling a wide variety.

Congrats on the purchase, Simple Beauty is how I describe the Sebenza. Nothing fancy but the engineering is incredible. Now take her out and cut some stuff with it!

Congrats on the knife! I agree with you when you said you have to spend time with it to appreciate it. When I first got my Seb I was disappointed. No glowing beam from the heavens as you open the package....but then you start using it....and using it....and after a while you realise you only carry the Seb and all the others are stowed away. It grows on you the more you use it.

What article and magazine is that btw, looks interesting?

I don't know about the beams from Heaven, but my eyes were fully open - and dilated - when I opened that plain box containing my new Wilson Combat Umnumzaan last Thursday. My first CRK, it illicited immediate utterances of, "I'm not worthy... I'm not worthy...". Seriously, if you don't feel that way initially - use the knife. Carry it - use it some more. You'll see. Those once favorite EDC's before the CRK may languish in their 'resting' space as the CRK builds up the carry miles.

I still love some of it's predecessors - my BM 630 Skirmish and 755 MPR have a home, as do the Buck Custom Shop 110's and some Vic SAK's. Mostly, I have a bunch of knives for my #1 son to peruse - my new EDC being firmly entrenched in my pocket, of course.

It's from the book "The Tactical Knife" by James Morgan Ayres.

Thanks for all the responses guys. Love the CRK sub forum. I'll be checking in here from time to time to learn a thing or two. I've already picked up some great information here.

I've seen photos of that knife and all I can say is WOW! It's a beauty. In fact I went looking to see if it was offered in a lefty. Luckily for my wallet, I could only find the right handed version. :(

I was in the same boat as you. I received my first CGG sebenza in 2008 and thought to myself.."I've been waiting 8 years for this thing? " During the next few weeks, I started to realize all the greatness behind the Sebenza.
