I was checking in the archives and ran across them. Not bad time from design to knife, Mar.17th,2000 to Nov.01,2000!!!!
And I received the YCS on Nov.4th, 2000 at 3:30 p.m.
That's 7 months and 18 days from drawing to my hand!!
I think most manufacturers sometimes take a year or longer to get a new knife into production, but
I guess to be fair that's production of thousands of knives.
However the time taken to get the YCS is a whole lot quicker than you can get many custom knives made.

And I think we got a dayumed nice do on it too. It would have been nice to have had the more curvy handle, but I Know how difficult that is and the one we got is nicely done and comfortable.

Yvsa, though the final product is truly a work of art -- both in design and execution -- it seems to me that the blade in the drawing is more forward-curving than that of the actual khuk. How do the two actually compare in terms of blade curvature?

:
Steven Uncle Bill is right, I
got the exact prototype except for the handle which has about 3/8" less curve. The original drawings had just too much drop and wouldn't have made the knife as pleasant to use as it is now.
I would have liked to have had the extra curve in the handle as that style really locks into my hand well, but it may have not been to everyones likeing and I Know how hard it is to fit that handle as I did it on the as forged Chainpuri blade.
The YCS does have a gentle arc all along the spine and handle, making it a full curving khukuri.
We wound up with a real winner as far as I am concerned.

Customer designed blades.........what a concept!!!!!

Can't wait to get my hands on mine!

Hey, Yvsa,

Interestingly, I found that post the other day in the archive, and I REALLY liked your blade design #5. It is basically identical to one I had in mind myself. Any chance we could get a model like that introduced, Uncle Bill?

:
Matt, even if Uncle Bill says okay you are gonna have to make the wood prototype.

And you can't have a warped blade as the kamis take everything so literally.

(just tzn, about the kamis, that is.)

LMRRAO!!

Bro that's the reason I made another model as the 1st one's blade warped.
Terry and I have had a couple of laughs about that, but I guess what we are taking in jest could have been serious.
Have I said "I really love this knife?"

Yvsa,

I'll see if I can get around to it, but I'm a student and pretty busy most of the time. I'm also not much of a woodworker, but if I get a chance and Uncle says there are enough people interested, I can give it a try.

Any info on making the wood model for the Yvsa Special would also be very much appreciated!
