My Dad bought me this knife around 1960. It was recently found in the basement. Anyone know anything about the Dreier Co.; type of steel; is it real stag? Thank you for any information!

My uncle has one that looks exactly the same and is from around the same time, and the . But I can't help you though.

I have the same knife but in a different handle material. the guars is supposed to be bent like that

Thanks for the input! I'm almost positive that the guard wasn't bent like that until I tried my knife throwing superiority at a tree way back when.:D RH - I'll check with Mr. Levine. Thanks!

Again, thanks for the picture & information. Your knife's guard looks like an S-type guard like you would see on a Bowie knife but only one side of my guard is bent & it does not appear to be part of the manufacturing process. Maybe Mr. Levine can shed some light on the subject.

I have read a bit of Mr. Levines postings, and tried to learn well.... I would venture to suggest that this is a common type of German hunting knife, imported into this country under many, many brand names in the 2nd half of the 20th century. Very often there is very little to know about the brands. But, then it IS a decent sort of traditional hunting knife, and worth having as using knife. Clean it up, learn to do a good job sharpening it, use it properly and all will be well. When I was a kid in the 60's I remember seeing display cases of this type of knife in all sorts of sizes and blade patterns in touristy souvineer shops in Gatlinburg.

Fox Creek - Bit by bit I'm learning some more about my childhood fixed blade. Thank you! If nothing else, this knife holds sentimental value for me & will wind up in my collection. I don't know if you saw one of my real early posts but this is the knife I was going to do battle with a pack of wild dogs with while checking my traps! I'm glad I opted to climb the tree instead!:D
